Smoking Jo
Smokin Jo DJ/ Producer: Jo began musical career in 1990 when, noticing a lack of female Djs on the dance music scene she bought her own set of decks and started mixing herself. After continued practice, and receiving positive feedback from her mixtapes, she embarked on a musical journey that has taken her to the four corners of the globe.
Her cutting edge style and impeccable taste in music has made sure that Jo is always classed amongst the top name DJs. She is still the only female DJ to have won DJ Magazine's prestigious DJ of the Year award. Smokin Jo's talent behind the decks and fearless risk taking in her mixing has made sure her DJing CV contains most major clubs throughout the world.
At the moment Jo is working on various tracks with her production partner Pete Gleadall under the name Transistor spelt TRNSSTR .Viva have signed tracks by the pair the first Sausage Dog was released in April 08 with remixes by Plasmik and David Squillace
She now returns to AREA51 after two previous gigs with us, the last an unannounced gig at the infamous Circo Loco event in November.
Tom Neville
In 2004 a younger Tom Neville was named Mixmag future hero. Since then he has gone from strength to strength kicking off this year with a helter skelter tour of Australia & New Zealand, then South America, South Africa, Australia, France, Eastern Europe and Russia. Alongside this he has started his new band project ColouringIn (www.myspace.com/wearecolouringin). And his own label LoveminusZero which is proving a roaring success, releases including that of; Specktrum, Tommy fourseven and Chaim.
Tom is also no stranger to impressive remix action. Famously known for his remixes of 'Milshake' by Kelis and 'Destroy Rock & Roll' by Mylo, Tom has more recently lent his magic remix touch to hot new fodder 'Don't Be Shy' by new pals Spektrum, as well as new mixes for the huge breakthrough band, The Feeling and cult sensation Mika.
Jason Herd
There couldnt be more happening right now for three times Subliminalartist Jason Herd. DJMags November issue will hold a cover mount CD of his latest productions on his JFunk Recordings label, demonstrating why he leads the way forward in house music showing how JFunk has evolved from an outlet for his own releases to one of the most talked about, vocal house labels at this time_
Previously more commonly known for his worldwide smash Herd & Fitz I Just Cant Get Enough, Jason now joins the ranks alongside Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand and Axwell with his new direction of vocal, but big room house music. Forthcoming releases include top vocalists Lisa Millett, Steve Edwards and Roland Clarke, whilst his current xxx-rated track My Girl has reached anthemic levels and has been smashing dancefloors everywhere resulting in it being snapped up and due for a full commercial release in its clean version. Meanwhile his tech house/techno alter ego Juan Kidd has releases forthcoming on Toolroom and Azuli for those darker floors
