Lineup and details for The Troubadour Sessions: MAIA // Jessica Mary York + More on Wednesday 8th February 2012
MAIA
Once in a while a band will come along who sound way beyond their years, think Fleet Foxes or The Incredible String Band. Having
just completed university, Maia is a band that fall into that esteemed category.
They bestow a sound and vision that is remarkably mature, combined with a sense of adventure that reflects their youthful spirit.
Following their self-titled debut album, Alligator EP is physically and musically fascinating. The record has been manufactured with 9
different alligator covers.
Jessica Mary York
Jessica Mary York is a fresh faced singer songwriter with a taste for the old. Built from scratch with just her piano and a tune in her head, she creates music that echoes the timeless melodies of Burt Bacharach and one can easily forget she's only 21. But with an energy that oozes youthfulness, she pulls us to the present with her stripped back acoustic sound, reminding us that old and new are never far apart.
Humphrey
HUMPHREY is being hailed as the next big thing even before his debut EP has been released. The Mercury-Prize-nominated artist Ed Harcourt says that Humphrey writes songs that are crammed full of the catchiest melodies, the most infectious hooks and lyrical twists and deserves to be No 1 across the globe if theres any justice. The Sunday Times music writer Tony Barrell agrees, writing: His melodic, anthemic songs will send a shiver of pleasure zipping up your spine. This mellow-voiced British singer-songwriter is a Kevin Ayers for the 21st century, and could well join Bogart and Lyttelton in the exclusive pantheon of famous Humphreys.
Juey
Juey is an acoustic singer-songwriter playing guitar, banjo and harmonica. Singing folk, country, and bluegrass songs about love, loss, war, victory and the devil. A fine storyteller in the traditional style Her voice is most appealing. Maverick Magazine, 2011.
