Lineup and details for London Pirate Festival: Pirate Fun Day on Saturday 20th September 2008

Ho Ho Ho me hearties! Shiver your timbers on board the Golden Hinde for this special pirate weekend. Come and hear tales of pirates and buccaneers, join the treasure hunts to find the booty hidden on board, explore the five decks and captain’s cabin. Come dressed for the occasion - prizes for the best pirate costumes.

Daily tickets: Adults £10, Children £7 and Family Ticket £30 (2 adults and 2 children)

Times 1pm to 4.30pm on Saturday 20th September

Come and sample a taste of Tutor life on board The Golden Hinde, London's replica of Francis Drake's warship, which offers visitors an unforgettable Living History Experience. The Golden Hinde is a full-sized reconstruction of the Tudor warship in which Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the world in 1577 – 1580.

Our reconstruction, a fully working ship, was launched in Devon in 1973. Since then she has circumnavigated the globe and sailed over 140,000 miles – many more than the original. She is now berthed in St Mary Overie Dock, London, in the middle of historic Southwark, only a short walk from the Clink Prison Museum and Shakespeare’s Globe. It is visited by 1000s of visitors each year, of equal appeal to those interested in Tudor life at sea, Francis Drake, or pirates!

When Francis Drake set sail on board the Golden Hinde in 1577 he could not have known the adventures he would encounter. His story is one involving Queen Elizabeth I, privateering, political intrigues, shipwreck and eventually a triumphant return to England. Drake and his men were to be the first Englishmen to circumnavigate the globe. Drake’s journeys were one of the most important contributions to Britain’s rise to global power and empire. Find out more about Drake’s extraordinary voyage of discovery and relive some of the adventures of these heroic Tudor sailors on board the Golden Hinde.
