Lineup and Details for Folklore Featuring ... Kari from 'Like Spinning' (Solo)/Douglas Dare + Guests on Fri 13th July 2012

LIKE SPINNING

- Beautiful, lingering melodies coupled with melancholy lyrics reminiscent of Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes with a definite eery undertone of eccentric ethereality
- ITNO Music

- Anglo-Norwegian band Like Spinning are purveyors of harmony rich indie-folk that will nestle nicely into you collection somewhere between First Aid Kit and Fleet Foxes (sound-wise, not alphabetically obviously). 'My Window' a dreamy track from recent double A-side single 'Forces/My Window', is a luscious, drifting and soothing treat for the ears and offers a few minutes of pure escapism
- The Sound Of Confusion

- Like Spinning are miners of melancholy. They've lured me into a world that is forever Autumn; a sunny sunny cold cold day full of fond memories and empty spaces. As they reach out I can't help but give myself over, pulling a little closer as I don't want to miss a thing. Hanging on every last word of such beautiful songs, songs with real weight to them as they offer intimacy and honesty in equal measures. Fans of many of today's harmonious hot-shots (Fleet Foxes/Bon Iver et al) could find a new friend here, and perhaps one more worthy of your affection, a friend that you can actually relate to, imagine sitting with, sharing a joke, a drink, or a little encouragement to keep mining for that heart of gold
- Simple Folk Radio

- 'Forces / My Window' are both genuinely gorgeous, Kari has a truly beautiful voice, her ethereal vocals compliment the wistful melodies of her music perfectly, interweaving beautiful guitar arrangements with subdued percussion and dreamy harmonies to create a wonderful hazy, languid atmosphere that will ease your worries away
- Just Music That I Like

- Their sound is woozy dreamy alternative pop music with lots of female harmonies and floating guitar lines. Think Warpaint, Lanterns on the Lake and CocoRosie. The songs are exquisitely made and produced, I think they have the potential to make a really beautiful album
- Flying with Anna

- 'Forces' is an indie pop tune with a beautifully subtle composition. Jahnsen proves to be a skilled songwriter who conveys emotion well
- The DADADA

DOUGLAS DARE

Twenty-one year old Douglas Dare from West Dorset has emerged with a haunting sound of acoustic, piano based indie. Inspired by the solo projects of Jack Steadman (Bombay Bicycle Club), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear) and Thom Yorke, Douglas combines intimate arrangements with a voice and lyric of a true storyteller.

Apparently, Maria Byrne used to work as a welder, tackling hairline cracks in Rolls Royce jet engines. Having never taken a naked flame anywhere near a jet engine, I can only imagine it to be an intensive, noisy way to pass the time. Which would make it pretty much the opposite of Byrnes debut album,Little Basement. For this record, youre going to need a different set of adjectives. How about sweet, simple and infectious. Those should tell you most of what you need to know.

Little Basement is full of sing-along melodies, at once delicate and full of life. Almost all of Byrnes momentum so far has been built through radio play, and its easy to see why given the charming tunes that make up this record, not least the toe-tappers Home and All You Need.

The celtic charm of her Irish upbringing shine through with the gentle fiddle adding a little fizzle, but the instrumentation is largely kept to a minimum in order to showcase Byrnes heart-warming vocals. The pace changes on the delightful Winter, which has an effect akin to a welcoming log fire on a cold day.

It helps to cap an accomplished debut that suggests Byrne has talent enough to keep her away from welding torches for as long as she chooses.

With an eclectic mix of folk rock and country blues, Lucy Kitt is fast developing a growing fan-base throughout the UK and beyond with her self-penned acoustic songs.
As a guitarist and performer in all girl Grunge band 'Ostara', the band quickly became established as well known musicians in their hometown of Romford & Upminster in Essex. It was moving to Kent for University after the split of Ostara that Lucy's love for acoustic and folk took hold. Lucy naturally began taking inspiration from the likes of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Sandy Denny and music from her parents influential collection of 70s sounds. Beginning as a solo performer, Lucy soon became a feature on the Canterbury music scene and has been a respected local talent ever since. Recognition for her songwriting saw her reach the semi finals of the BBC Radio 2 young folk award in 2007. Beyond the UK, Lucy has fans across Europe and USA; having performed in Sweden and Switzerland, and organised her own mini-tour of North California, Lucy continues to spread her music far and wide. With radio air play in Australia as well as back home, and famous fans from the likes of anti-folk hero Billy Bragg, exposure of Lucys music is fast catching up her exceptional talent.
