Lineup and Details for Unleashed: an 'anti-opera' about Maleness on Thu 9th August 2012
UNLEASHED The Opera
UNLEASHED is about what men want, told from the perspective of men who want to have really hard sex with each other. What were they proud of? What did they regret?
Most of all: how far would they go?
Conceived for two violins, tape and three male performers, UNLEASHED is both shocking and arousing, compelling us to critique our own sexualities, our own personal taboos and preferences, and the precarious balance between the normal and the peculiar.
It offers a powerful perspective on sexuality, violence and masculinity in our modern world.
Real Accounts OF HARD SEX
I dont know I think sometimes its because someone can push your limits, and you realise that you kind of enjoyed it (Male II)
Rather than constructing a fictional narrative, Venables and Blackburn have gathered real-life accounts, ordering them around a cornerstone text from the compelling Laskey, Jaggard Brown v United Kingdom case of the 1990s, in which three men were found guilty of actual bodily harm during sex, despite the consent of all participants. Its content will be both shocking and arousing, compelling the listener to re-assess the precarious boundaries between normality and peculiarity in everyday sexual encounters.
