Lineup and details for Peter Knight's(Steeleye Span) Gigspanner on Sunday 14th June 2009

Having now clocked up almost 40 years with Steeleye Span, Fiddle player Peter Knight's name and reputation are known to most people with an interest in Traditional Music. His idiosyncratic style, which effortlessly traverses several genres has been an inspiration to many, and yet to a great extent the full range of his playing is still largely unknown. That is about to change.....

Wishing to create an opportunity to explore more fully the areas of Music that interest him, Peter created his own trio ‘Gigspanner' where he is joined by Guitarist Roger Flack and Afro-Percussionist Vincent Salzfaas, who are in the words of festival organiser Geoff Boudreau "both powerful and intelligent musicians in their own right".

Leave your preconceptions at the Door. Together they explore Traditional Music and its related themes with energy, brilliance and spontaneity. World music, classical, African, folk-rock, Cuban sounds - they all make up the Gigspanner mix It is Music regarded with a fresh eye, and yet retains a sense of the familiar at its heart. Fresh, lyrical and very beautiful.

"Articulate, and often multi-lingual music making". Julian Cowley, The Wire

"One of my Festival highlights. I will certainly be booking them again"

Geoff Boudreau, Rye Festival Organiser

"Exciting, Interesting, Challenging. A magical evening. I can't recommend this Band highly enough"

Barry Howard, Talkawhile Review

"The music was not only memorable but left one feeling uplifted and blown away by its brilliance". Colin Miller-Hoare, ES Observer

"Gigspanner entranced the audience. They brought the House down"

Peter Cripps, Gloucestershire Echo

"Knight's high level of technical expertise, coupled with his willingness to step outside the boundaries of any particular genre, make him an artist of the highest calibre" Folksy Links
