We are really excited to announce our first Guanabara Summer Season. Its the time of the year when London looks a little more like Brazil: people are happier, the sun is shining and the atmosphere is great and we wanted to celebrate this with the finest music Brazil has to offer.

Giana Viscardi is one the most promising names within the new generation of female singers in Brazil. Beautiful, extremely talented, and regarded as one of the next big talents in Brazils MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira or Brazilian Popular Music). Through her songs, Giana transmits the essence of Brazilian music: joy of life, vibrant energy, romanticism and sensuality. Dont miss this exclusive live performance at Guanabara, a mix of Bossa Nova, Afro-Brazilian rhythms and samba. MONOBLOCO - JULY 17TH, 22ND AND 24TH (£5 all night)
With: DJ John Armstrong - 17 July, DJ Limao 22 July and DJ Franco Ze Carioca 24 July
The Brazilian percussion collective Monobloco bring their unique fusion of samba, funk and hip-hop to London this summer with three performances at Guanabara. Formed in 2000 during a series of percussion workshops, Monobloco have since built such a remarkable reputation on Rios Carnival scene that they are now synonymous with the revival and rescue of Rios street Carnival music. Their annual pre-Carnival parties gather around 4,000 people a night and their street parade brings an amazing 150,000 people to the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana every year. Wanting to translate this unique Carioca (native of Rio) experience to other crowds, they created the Monobloco show, a smaller group comprised of 16-18 professional musicians. Their repertoire ranges from traditional sambas to classics of Brazilian popular music, including such major names as Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor, Chico Buarque and Nação Zumbi. Come along to live the Monobloco experience like a true Carioca. www.monobloco.org
TRIBO DE JAH + DJ LIMAO - JULY 23 (£5 all night)
Tribo De Jah were brought together by a mutual love of music, when they met at the Maranhão School for the Blind. With four of the members totally blind, and the fifth only partially seeing, the band developed their passion for music by creating their own instruments out of whatever materials they could find. They began to write songs together and soon started to play at local dances experimenting with reggae, which was becoming a huge force in Maranhão State. They later joined forces with a broadcaster by the name of 'Fauzi' Beydoun, and went on to create their very own Brazilian reggae. Six albums later, the band have become a Brazilian phenomenon, performing to sell-out crowds across Brazil. Tonight they bring their show to London to play exclusively as part of the Summer Season. Their music transcends all borders and appeals to the world-at-large, with songs written and performed in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish. www.myspace.com/tribodejah
LUCIANA MELLO & JAIR OLIVEIRA + DJ D.VYZOR - JULY 29 (£5 all night)
The last event in our Summer Season, ends the festival in style. After a sell out show at Guanabara in February 2007, Luciana Mello returns with her equally talented and famous brother, Jair Oliveira. Daughter of MPB artist Jair Rodrigues, Lucianna inherited much of her fathers musical genes to become one of Brazils most talented young singers. The siblings will be showcasing their own material as well as playing popular Brazilian classics, in a unique mixture of Samba and Soul.
