Lineup and details Lineup and details

Glaswegian Heralds Of Change man Hudson Mo; West London Ubiquity signing Eric Lau and broken beat maestro IG Culture have all already dropped into East London’s Gramaphone venue this year, all to join 1Xtra resident and champion of the soulful underground scene Benji B at his monthly Deviation Sessions.

The quality continues for May, with Benji turning out another stellar line up, headed up by one of the original Attica Blues Allstars, Acyde. Having DJed around the globe from Amsterdam to New York and all points in between, if you listen hard enough he can currently be heard in many a rounded corner of London under the TMI moniker. Acyde is also a founder member of the London based Blacktronica movement promoting a monthly night of music without borders, from Carl Craig to Coltrane and everything in between, to create a unique sonic kaleidoscope.

Also appearing on the night is London’s own Elmore Judd with their full live band, described by them selves as “weird soul” but with a wide range of styles from Elmore’s eclectic record collection. Ranging from P-funk to art-school disco and rock avant-gardism, UK hip hop and African roots music, horror soundtracks and jazz can all be found on new album ’Insect Funk’. Coming out on Honest Jon’s Records, the album also features brother, Louis Hackett (aka Louis Slipperz), on percussion, keys and production. He’s a veteran of the UK hip-hop scene, turntablist to the Taskforce crew and originator of the £10 Bag mix CD series.

Now on its seventh successful session, Deviation is building a name for itself, bringing an eclectic mix of the underground’s finest to London. Having already welcomed Skream, Ge-Ology, Dego, Moodyman and Flying Lotus to grace its decks, there’s more quality lined up for the coming year. So mark the first Wednesday of the month in your diary and bring back the mid-week party.
