Lineup and details for Rocinante! Rocinante! UK Premiere on Friday 10th February 2012
The Follow up to The Royal Court Theatres Run at The Bussey Building comes something brand new for 2012..... The Panta Rei Theatre Collective presents A UK Premiere. Rocinante! Rocinante!
A Surreal Journey Through the Restless Mind of Don Quixote de la Mancha
The CLF Art Cafe, Bussey Building Fri 10th Feb - Fri 02nd March 2012 [Closed Sundays]
Panta Rei Theatre Collective invites you into their world of entrancing imagery and magical encounters where the grotesque become poetic and the boundaries between fantasy and reality blur...
Rocinante! Rocinante! is an immersive, quirky and grotesquely unconventional site-specific performance inspired by two of the most celebrated and fascinating portrays of madness: Don Quixote and Hamlet.
A cemetery. Don Quixote arrives in the middle of the night with his old horse Rocinante followed by his faithful squire Sancho Panza and Donkey. Here they stumble upon Hamlets gravediggers involved in their alchemic experiments as they debate the meanings of life, death and everything in between...
Its not long before the quiet cemetery reveals itself to be something other than it appears. Breaking the rules of logic and rationality this garden of souls suddenly becomes something else; a space populated by bizarre characters and surreal creatures suspended somewhere between fantasy and reality...sanity and madness...life and death.
Rocinante! Rocinante! is an highly physical and visually striking devised piece influenced by the Absurd, the Surreal and the Grotesque and strongly inspired by the dark imagery of Hieronymus Boschs paintings.
The original score created by composer Steve Mason is characterised by an interesting mixture of classical and experimental music with a particular fascination for the variety of sonorities and rhythms that can be created on stage by the performers.Through an alternation of highly dynamic physical sequences and poetic intimate moments the audience will enter into a world of dreams, memories and visions...embarking on a surreal journey through the restless mind of Don Quixote de la Mancha.
The company has been working under the direction of Chiara DAnna since January 2010. Since then the piece has been presented twice as a work-in-progress.
