Lineup and details for Tales from Charles Dickens on Friday 13th April 2012
The team that bought you the sell-out Tales From Haunted Liverpool series return with Tales From Charles Dickens featuring excerpts from Dickens most popular family tales including Oliver, Great Expectations and Hard Times on 12 & 13 April at St Georges Concert Room.
The performances will form part of Dickens 2012, an international celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens marking the bicentenary of his birth, which falls on 7 February 2012. Institutions and organisations from all over the world are partners of Dickens 2012 all of whom are working together to deliver a programme of events and activities to commemorate this very special anniversary. The Liverpool events will take place in a setting much loved by Dickens himself, the Concert Room at St Georges Hall.
Adapted and Directed by Jen Heyes (Curiouser & Curiouser, The Spirit of Christmas, Blood Wedding, I love Vinegar Vera and Wall Talks), the world famous tales will be performed and read by four locally known actors from the Tales From stable. Brian Dodd (I Love Vinegar Vera, Blood Wedding, Wall Talks and September in the Rain) who has performed in all the Tales From Haunted Liverpool productions is joined by newcomer 17 year old Francess Gannon from Speke have both been confirmed with more cast being announced shortly.
Director Jen Heyes said We are going to really enjoy bringing some of Dickens classic stories to life in a space that Dickens himself stated A perfect venue this is a guaranteed wonderful half-term Easter treat for all the family.
The opulent Concert Room at St Georges Hall will set the scene for the atmospheric dramatic storytelling styled and delivered in the format of the previous Tales From productions through readings, songs, sound effects and theatrical performance and using every inch of the beautiful Concert Room. The cast will also be dressed in full Victorian costume.
Built in the 1840s, St. Georges Hall is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and is a Grade I listed building. The opulent refurbished Concert Room has been a long standing favourite for readings, including Charles Dickens himself who gave so many readings from the stage and regarded it as a perfect venue.
