On Wednesday 7^th May 2008 at 7.30pm Leeds Parish Church hosts its fourth Battle of the Organs. The Battle of the Organs has become something of a tradition after its initiation in 2005 by resident Leeds organist David Houlder. Now in its fourth year, the Leeds Battle of the Organs is an excellent opportunity to hear the magnificent Leeds Parish Church organ in all its splendor alongside several splendid pipeless instruments from Makin Organs, whose generous cooperation is crucial to the realization of the conept.   We welcome back our friends from Liverpool Cathedral, Professor Ian Tracey who this year travels to Yorkshire with Daniel Bishop. The Leeds home team likewise again fields a full complement of Organists in the form of David Houlder himself (LPC Sub Organist and Director of the Girl’s Choir) and the Church’s Master of the Music Dr Simon Lindley.

It is a great thrill once again to be involved in this exciting event and a thoroughly enjoyable evening of music from all traditions is absolutely guaranteed!   The evening’s programme is devised by Leeds organist David Houlder, on the staff of the Parish Church since 2003, and previously Sub Organist at Liverpool over two decades.   This truly trans-pennine event raised more than £1000 for the Choral Foundation Appeal in 2007. We are very grateful to Dr Keith Harrington and Makin organs for supplying so many wonderful instruments.   The Battle of the Organs is promoted by The Friends of The Music of Leeds Parish Church – an organisation dedicated to securing the future of almost 200 years of choral tradition at historic Leeds Parish Church.  Admission is free – and there is a retiring collection.
