Dio Day is a special all day gig to celebrate the music and career of Ronnie James Dio and also to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Thought up by local musician Matt Kirby (who last year organised the Great Guitar Giveaway) this is a day full of music that influenced and is influenced and inspired by one of the most famous front men in modern rock & metal music as well creating a showcase & fun event for local musicians to take the stage at one of the larger venues in the city.
Entrance is just £5 otd and advance tickets are available from The Piper, Sharkeys, Ringside, Bad Dog Music and the acts themselves plus online tickets are available from skiddle.com
The live music line up for the gig ranges from classic rock covers bands to local original groups plus rock DJ Shaun 'crazy' Hudson to keep things interesting inbetween and RAW Dance Troop are also appearing. Bands confirmed so far include XIII Hull's most popular original thrash metal band due to release their first album in August, Pastel Jack who's no-nonsense heavy metal and energetic live performance are gaining them fans far and wide.
Castles Made Of Sand travel in from the coast to rock the day with some classic Jimi Hendrix covers, always entertaining live they impressed many people at recent local shows at The Ringside & Sharkeys. Crossfire add some heavy covers to the mix with Valvekasta heading for a more rock'n'roll inspired set plus some of their own original material.
The Happy Endings are normally seen as an acoustic three piece but for this gig are expanding their line up and playing a full electric set. Iron Harvest are a new young band who in their first few gigs have already built up a large and loyal following for their high energy heavy metal. Others act will be added to the bill over the next few days.
Doors open fron midday and food will be available allday, if the weather is fine an outdoor barbecue will be fired up plus drinks will be available from only £1.25
