Lineup and details for Step On! A Night Dedicated To Madchester on Saturday 3rd December 2011
The term Madchester was coined for the alternative music scene that developed in Manchester, at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s.
The scene mixed indie rock and dance music. Artists associated with the scene included the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, The Inspiral Carpets, 808 State, James and A Guy Called Gerald. At that time, the Haienda nightclub was a major catalyst for the distinctive musical sound.
In the summer of 2011 The Step On Boys began there monthly night 'Step On' at the now 'defunct' Heroes bar in Camden Town London. The first night pulled in one of the biggest crowds that Heroes has seen with hundreds of revellers flocking to the bar.
The Step On crew now bring this sound holding there monthly partys @ Bar Solo in the heart of Camden Town, with The Step On Dj's Handy & Peachy spinning all those Madchester and cult Indie Brit Pop classics and special guest bands headling the night.
*Don't miss out on the Madchester scene. Get down to the next Step On night with your best northern swagger*
Line Up:
The Rivalry 'live'
A band who started when leaving school, needed to make changes from the original line up and over time have gained a loyal following up and down the country, and it's easy to see why these lads have become so popular over the last 18 months. Frontman Rob Hawthorne has everything you could ask for, style, quality vocals and the guitar riffs to match. His support on bass guitar comes from Daz Mellor, who stamps down complete authority over any track written, add this to the frantic drumming of Rich Howshall and you find yourself with a top class rock & roll band. Let's not forget keyboard player and musical director Rich Wheatley, he's brought experience from his time playing on tour with The Streets and recording on the Doves lost soul album, to give The Rivalry a tighter and more developed sound. Influences are obvious from the Ian Brown style vocals, Jimi Hendrix riffs and you just have to throw in a dash of Charlatans funky keyboard style to see the clear inspirations given to Rob in helping him write anthemic tracks such as 'Legend Still Remains,' 'Silent Disco, Calling all the people' and crowd favourite, 'Lets wake up the sun. It's impossible to go to a Rivalry gig and not have their tunes rattling around your brain for days, and the lads clearly have faith in their tunes, bossing every live performance making their shows unmissable. The band are clearly starting to get the credit they deserve, if being a major part of BBC Introducing Stoke wasn't good enough, add support slots with legends such as, Ocean Colour Scene, Proud Mary, Twisted Wheel, Detroit Social Club, Bez from Happy Mondays and national recognition from founder of Oasis and Charlatans, Alan McGee, and you'll see how it's just a matter of time before a big record label is banging on the door! Grab your chance to see them in a venue near you soon before they catch the big time.

The Step On DJs (back 2 back)
The Step On Dj's are Northern through and through. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, near to Manchester in the early 80's both Karl Hand and Martin Peach were brought up with Northern Soul, Britpop and to the infamous music of the Haienda.
Back in the days when indie Rock n' Roll was all about guitar, cool Britannia and when dance music was well...all about the dancing, Handy and Peachy lived it up. They respectively partied on the Northern scene living their youth through the music of Oasis, Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays.
Handy took his love for the scene and formed his own band, who went on to successfully tour Australia while Peachy grounded his northern routes for a few more years.
Years later through a chance meeting in London town Handy and Peachy became inseparable. Bonding over their love of northern music they formed a DJ collaboration 'The Step On Dj's' which would bring the sound of Manchester to London.
