GERMAINE GREER
Shakespeares Wife
The Australian writer, feminist and academic discusses her latest book; a study of the life of Anne Hathaway, her importance in the life and career of the bard and a social history of Shakespeare's time.
Its a fascinating reconstruction of Anns life and the daily lives of Elizabethan women; offering an illuminating portrait of their working routines, the rituals of their courtship, and the minutiae of married life. Set to be Germaines most controversial book since The Female Eunuch, it presents a contentious, yet convincingly argued set of hypotheses about the wife of William Shakespeare.
