TUESDAY 27th NOVEMBER, 8-11pm @ FUNKTION ROOMS, EASTBOURNE

THE HOLLOWAYS, BLAH BLAH BLAH, YOUR FRIENDS ARE ARCHITECTS

The Holloways are:

Alfie Jackson - Vocals/Guitar/Harmonica
Rob Skipper - Vocals/Guitar/Fiddle
Bryn Fowler - Bass/Vocals
Dave Danger – Drums

In the months that have followed since the release of The Holloways’ last single ‘Happiness and Penniless’, the four young charmers from North London have been keeping themselves pretty busy..

To celebrate signing their recent record deal with TVT records, the band played a triumphant, sold out gig at the 100 Club (March) and soon after became the highlight of many peoples’ Camden Crawl.  They’ve since stormed through the heats and currently sit in the final 14 out of 2,000 in V Festival/Channel 4’s Road to V competition. The winner will take the coveted opening slot at this summer’s V Festival (announced in July on Channel 4).

In addition, notoriously late risers, The Holloways managed not only to be up on time for an 8am gig (in pyjamas and dressing gowns, of course) as part of the Carling 24 Festival, but also play a set of such contagious energy that the entire bleary-eyed crowd found themselves dancing on the tables and singing along at the top of their lungs...  Even earlier that morning (around 2am) the group performed a hilarious impromptu duet with Channel 4’s Steve Jones, live on T4.

‘Two Left Feet’ is The Holloways’ first release on TVT Records. Produced by Langer & Winstanley (Elvis Costello, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Madness, Blur) the song (a paean to young love) is built around a typically inspired duel guitar and fiddle riff and accompanied by some lovely Dylan like harmonica. Alfie Jackson sings of being drunk and lonely and that overwhelming late night yearning for someone to bring a little joy into your life.

Even the stoniest of hearts and the longest of faces will struggle not to be lifted by the sheer joyous nature of the song. Containing such brilliant, self deprecating lines as, “I can’t really dance, but baby won’t you dance with me?”  It’s the kind of hopelessly romantic statement that epitomises what makes the band so appealing to so many people.

Having built up a huge and loyal following over the course of last year, the band released their first two singles ‘Generator’ and ‘Happiness and Penniless’ on their own label ‘Sensible Records’.  Both received an incredible response: romping to victory on Radio 1 Zane Lowe’s ‘Fresh Meat’, ‘Rebel Play List’ winners on Lamacq BBC 6 Music (twice), plus two John Kennedy XFM sessions.
