Lineup and details for The Mirror Trap on Friday 9th March 2012
The Mirror Trap - http://www.facebook.com/mirrortrap
The Mirror Trap is the blood in our veins. We have no option but to do this.
We are The Mirror Trap. We are four young men bound together by a love of music, ideas and romanticism. Fully inducted members of the new forgotten generation, for whom there are no jobs, no dreams and no escape. Numbed by the great plastic distraction. The fight back starts here.
We want to melt your hearts, boil your blood, and send your body into raptures. We want every noise to mean something, to some part, of someone, otherwise there is no point in bothering. Music is a definite form of escapism, possibly the greatest way to forget the immense claustrophobia of modern society, but at the same time it is a tool which can be used to combat it. A soapbox from which you can scream for change, beg forgiveness and unite. We are billions of highly evolved beasts on a massive wet rock, spinning around a massive ball of fire, our end is settled but the rest is up to us. There is always a choice, it might be really scary, but it is there. I am not going to claim that we are going to change the world, but I'll die happier known we have tried.
After spending a long time going through the musical motions of recording demos, sending emails and playing in every dive bar we could get into we decided that the great rock n roll fairytale was probably not playing out for us, so have set to doing it for ourselves, starting with the recording of our debut album, The Last Great Melodrama, which we will release in June 2011. We have blagged ourselves some amazing support slots, most notably with The View at Glasgow's Barrowlands and Dundee's Caird Hall, and have received nation and local press and radio play.
We each bring our own varied musical loves into the band, these include Queens of The Stone Age, Interpol, SUEDE, Velvet Underground, Radiohead, Kasabian, Magnetic Man, Joy Division, Ryan Adams, Elliot Smith, Rihanna, The Horrors, Nirvana, LL Cool J, Death Cab For Cutie, Burial, Marvin Gaye, Magazine and many, many more.
We also take a great deal of influence from people like Jean Paul Sartre, Aldous Huxley, Allen Ginsberg, Fernando Pessoa, Marilyn Monroe, Rasputin, Charles Darwin, Jonny Depp, Dr Who, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Franz Kafka and Jack Kerouac.
