Wickerman is great for kids, theres usually 4 or 5 in our party, this year its down to 2, The site isnt what you would call level in fact theres a fairly big incline down towards the main stage altho this means that viewing is fine if you want to keep the kiddies back from the crowd around the front...its more on a level at the bottom of the main area and at the top it levels off as well where theres lots going on...there isnt any real great walking distances either between different tents/stages and if you do use the buggy you will at some points have to be pushing it uphill but as i say no great distance...hope that helps a bit. |

RichSkiddle Offline Points:12525 Posts: 11196 | Re: Taking the kids..... It's levelish, but then it's a festival. If it rains a buggy might become hard work. The path from the campsite to the arena is quite solid, but then the arena is gras and you might struggle. It sounds daft but a folding wheelbarrow I have seen used before, and this will fit in your car - have a look on google - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=folding +wheelbarrow&btnG=Google+Search&meta= Famil y camping is big, and there's a big number of kids coming this year! |

I've never taken a kid younger than 5 but my friends do regularly (they just keep having more!) and never seem to have a problem. I don't know how much fun a buggy would be but maybe budgeting your time for a slower meander to the main site & putting the older one on a string & the younger in a papoose (obviously it depends how big they are and how good they are at walking etc) but all the toddlers I've seen there just seem to potter along nicely hanging on to a parent. It's not that far from anywhere to anywhere else and the family camping is a good size. There are usually a fair few kids about and mine have always been safe and loved every minute of it. good luck |

![]() jmsmith Offline Points:161 Posts: 13 | Re: Taking the kids..... Would suggest an all terrain buggy if you have or can borrow/hire one.Or fold away wheelbarrow as above. Family camping is up on the hill. Would suggest that you get as far up and back of the hill as possible. Last year we were up near the tipis (if they're going to be in same place)and it was great there. The year before we were too near the all night rave tent. Don't know whose bright idea it was to put family camping there. Rave stopped about 4.30 and all the babies started up at about 6.00am!!!A bit wearing by the 3rd night.Tip....get there early or all the down and dirty tickets will be gone. Absolutely essential if you have small kids.(I believe they're not bookable on line this year...Please someone correct me urgently if I'm wrong)) IMO kids make for great festivals.....couple next to us the other year had 5 kids between 8weeks and 6years old. Have a great time |

RichSkiddle Offline Points:12525 Posts: 11196 | Re: Taking the kids..... You won't be able to drive up, however there are sherpas available with wheelbarrows to help transport your gear! The carpark is literally a 5 min walk anyway, if that! |

Decisions decisions, wish I had a bigger car (i've got a zafira so not exactly small.....) I've got an all terrain buggy but its only a single - my four year old will nab it for a nap leaving me to carry the wee one - also is a massive great big heavy thing that only people in the latter stages of their first pregnancy would buy! RichSkiddle - do you think the sherpas would let me borrow one of their wheelbarrows after everyones unpacked (for a fee of wine, rolls and sausage or dinner depending of time of day?) |

Aye, it's quiet/family camping so they will be able to camp beside you! I didnt arrive last year until 5pm on the Friday and there was loads of space left to pitch the tent. Have a good one! |

We went a few years ago, Had to lug our stuff over to the campsite but they allowed us to drive on to collect it afterwards (you just have to wait for it to clear a bit). We took a trolley with us to carry all our stuff. We then attached the car seat to it with a bungee and this converted it to a very niffty "buggy". We could get two kids on it at night for the trip home and it worked better on rough ground. Festivals is all about kids |

Hi everyone, I'm bringing my two boys (age 4 and 2) to the Wickerman this year and just wanting to check that I'm not mad (well, at least if I am then there are other equally mad people out there).
We have not been since 2003 so it would be great if some folks could answer me a few questions:)
I was going to bring a double buggy so that my four year old could also sit in it. Is the levelish for pushing it? What does other mums and dads do, I thought of a wheelbarrow but doubt I'd fit it in my car.
Also anyone know how big the family camping area is, how many kids are expected?
How near is the parking to the camp site (ok the website says frolicking distance but that depends on the length of your frolicks!)
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
