Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene details
Brit-rocker legends to play Derby
Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene will be making a special appearance in Derby at The Venue on Friday 6th June. This intimate show will be part of the unplugged tour.
Ocean Colour Scene are one of Britains most enduring bands. The band have seen and weathered it all - poverty, break ups, destructive record company politics, fads and fashions, critical acclaim and critical abuse, massive chart success and Top Of The Pops! The Ocean Colour Scene story should already be the stuff of legend; a rip-roaring rocknfolk odyssey set to a backdrop of fifteen years of U.K pop culture at its very best.
On the way they have created six chart albums and 11 top 20 singles. They have also built up one of the most loyal fan bases in Britain today.
In early 1996, the band released their debut MCA single 'The Riverboat Song', which was instantly picked up by popular DJ Chris Evans for his weekly TV show 'TFI Friday'. The single, with its insistent nagging riff, entered the charts at #15.
The follow up, 'You've Got It Bad', did even better, flying in at that week's #7 slot, paving the way for the release of band's much loved album, 'Moseley Shoals', which stayed at #2 in the charts for a staggering six months, selling over a million copies. In June 'The Day We Caught The Train', was placed on vinyl, entering the charts at #4 and that October the band embarked on a triumphant UK tour that ended in front of 100,000 people in Edinburgh on New Year's Eve.
Simon, who operates as the main songwriter in the band by locking himself away and coming up with riffs, melodies, and lyrics says 'We have built up a good reputation for playing live. I think we appeal to something that people always like which is, funnily enough, songs. Maybe we have a bit more fun than other bands such as Radiohead, that type. We're more of a knockabout band. I think it comes from that thing of being a gang, having a laugh. The Beatles, Stones, The Faces, that kind of line.'
