SEMI-FINAL TIME
IME Musics Derby Battle of the Bands is at the Semi-Final stages. Bands are fighting for many prizes including; 2 days studio time at Abbey Lane Studio, equipment/Vouchers from Soundcontrol, 250 copies of their own EP duplicated through Discus Group, slots at Off The Tracks and Strawberry Moon Festival, a professional music video shoot down in London with Sub TV and £200s worth of free custom made T-Shirts from Millennium Music Merchandise. Other sponsors helping make the event happen are RAM FM who will also be giving away features on the winning bands, Rattle and Drum who will be donating the drum kit for the events and Beefstock Recordings who will be recording the final.
The competition aims to put the spotlight on the Derby music scene and give the local bands exposure and hopefully reach new audiences. There are two sections one is for 18s and under and one for 18s and over. The first Semi-final for the over 18s features
Diatribe - A feisty three piece creating thumping tunes to their own formula. They mix all-out rock with a punk attitude and aren't afraid to have fun in the process. They never stand still and tend to jump from one idea to the next without warning, but they also contain a more melodic element that sometimes seeps out in their songs, but never enough to take it away from their powerful delivery.
Pressure - Pressure combine prog/rock sax fused with punk/rock guitars, with gritty melodic vocals in a red/black haze of frantic energy.
Sax Rock at its best!
The Roulette A three piece rock n roll band. With influences such as Jimi Hendrix, The Stone Roses, and The Libertines. They provide an exciting and energetic live performance guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
Everything On Red - Described as an assault on the ears and mind, they play fractured retro-electro punk that combines raw emotion and energy with mesmerising changes in rhythm. The bands range of influence is diverse, their ability to write music with quicksilver changes in direction and thought provoking lyrics will suggest a mix of bands spanning decades. From Crimson and Giant through Fugazi and Refused to Brand New and Saves the Day.
Rebel Teritory - A brash young power trio featuring a guitarist who might just be the first guitar hero to come out of England for a long long time. They have grown up on a diet of Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles and Oasis whilst metal influenced drummer Sean Skinner blends together Rebel Territory. Their sound, unsurprisingly, is an exhilarating mix of psychedelia, heavy Brit rock riffs and soaring choruses. Classic elements, a fresh approach.
The show is Thursday 22nd May 2008, 47-49 Abbey Street, Derby, DE22 3SJ. Entry is £3 - The show is for age 14+ and doors will open at 7.30PM. You must arrive before 8.00PM to get a voting form as they are only given out until the first band hits the stage. For more information visit www.imemusic.co.uk You can also email ian@imemusic.co.uk.
