Lineup and details for Comedy Cabin Xmas Special on Saturday 13th December 2008
The Comedy Cabin Xmas Special takes place this year on Saturday 13th
December at The Venue in Derby. For just £32.95 you will be treated to
a fantastic 3 course meal a late disco and a jam packed comedy show
featuring the following comedians...
Felix Dexter
Award winning comedian and actor Felix Dexter is one of the most
versatile talents to emerge from the comedy scene in years. His
distinctive fusion of acutely observed characters and high energy
stand-up mixed with satire ensure that he is widely acclaimed. These
qualities, allied to his considerable gift for comedy writing, were
seen in The Prince of Dalston, part of Carlton Televisions character
series Single Voices. At the Emma Awards Felix won the Best TV
Actor Award for this performance. Felix also worked on a screenplay
commissioned by the Film Council entitled The Prince of Dalston which
is based on one of his characters.
Felix's theatre credits include One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest in the
West End and Edinburgh, directed by Terry Johnson. Felix was cast in
both productions starring Christian Slater, Frances Barber and then
Alex Kingston.
He is also continuing to perform stand-up comedy and to pursue his
acting career. Recently he appeared in the National Theatres
production of Eugene ONeils Mourning Becomes Electra.
During 2002 he completed an acclaimed season with The Royal Shakespeare
Company playing Autolycus in A Winters Tale directed by Matthew
Warchaus and a selection of roles in Pericles directed by Adrian
Noble.
Excellent, explosive and exhilarating performer.... watch him bring the house down The Guardian
Simon Bligh
As a fifteen-year-old Liverpudlian schoolboy, Simon Bligh was told by
his headmaster that he would go to hell. His mum wanted him to be a
priest; he wanted to be a plumber. His dad was a mad Catholic
Communist; he was a Kung Fu mad Buddhist. Growing up in Toxteth, his
childhood was odd, but full of strange passions. Philosophy and Zen,
leather trousers and motorbikes. Japan, unarmed combat and stand up
comedy. The young Simon loved comedy and, upon seeing a Richard Pryor
film in an empty Manchester cinema, he realised his true calling. He
knew he should be a comedian. Faced with this revelation, there
followed a decade of travelling, teaching and trying to pluck up the
courage to ring for open spots. Finally, he did it. He hasnt looked
back since.
Ten years on, Simon is one of the finest, and most sought after performers in this country, and beyond. With a Time Out Comedy Award and Perrier Award nomination under his belt, Simon is in great demand. Aside from being a top compere at the world famous Comedy Store, he regularly delights audiences nation-wide at comedy clubs and corporate events throughout the UK. His cheery, conversational manner and manic storytelling involve acute observations and he juxtaposes a cheery, affable conversational style with a wild, frenetic and fast-moving performance engaging audiences in a whirlwind of unadulterated comedy. His corporate clients include Halifax Building Society, The British Newspaper Association and he has recently returned from Barcelona where he hosted the Achievers Awards for Nat West.
Simon has worked all over the globe and has made
appearances as far and wide as Dubai, Hong Kong, Thailand, America,
Malaysia,
Amsterdam, Germany and France. Spring 1999 saw him take his unique
brand of humour down under where he represented the cream
of British talent by co-headlining the The Cutting Edge of British Comedy.
He has a string of TV credits to his name, most
notably: - The Comedy Store (CH5), The StandUp Show (BBC), Not The
Jack Docherty Show (CH5), Good Stuff Comedy (Carlton), Edinburgh Nights
(BBC2), Saturday Live (ITV) and Thats Showbuisness (BBC1). Simon
recently recorded a pilot for Channel 4 entitled Dojo Rising, where
he indulged in his love for Martial Arts and took a look at all aspects
from Kung Fu to Capoeira to the beat em up video game phenomena.
Matt Price
is rapidly developing a style of his own, riding 3 comedy horses at the
same time: affable compere, stand-up comedian and storyteller. He is
resident compere at Resurrected at O'Neills in Cardiff, the Flavel
Arts Centre in Dartmouth and the Swansea Grand. He is comfortable on
stage, is able to adapt to his audience, does the occasional bad joke
and loves telling a good yarn.
Matt had planned to take his debut solo show, 'The Nimble Mammoth', to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2006. It was to be a personal story telling style show in the garden at a Comedy venue. When he arrived he found a barbecue in the middle of the performance space and so couldn't perform. He enjoyed the free burger he was given and plans to return to Edinburgh in the future with his new show, My Horse is no Longer Laughing.
Matt has researched a book about boxing, supported Noel James on his Ballad of a Blue Man theatre shows, worked alongside Red Dwarfs Norman Lovett and performed as a guest on BBC Radio Wales with Frank Hennessey.
He is officially the UK's first New Deal Comedian. Having been on the dole for two years, he decided to make his hobby his profession, applied for New Deal support and was accepted! This set of circumstances allows Matt yet another unique perspective on his life and profession, and will surely serve to cement his position as one of the most promising newcomers around.
when it comes to low-key charisma and innate likeability, few comics are in the same league as Matt Price he is able, with apparently little effort, to reel in the listener until they hang on his every word. Prices storytelling skills are superb - Chortle
Al Dawes
Some people have heard of him. Hopefully you will soon be one of them.
Since moving to Newcastle upon Tyne some ten years ago, this
Oxfordshire lad with Yorkshire, Essex and Finnish heritage has confused
his accent even more. An instantly likeable, but commanding presence on
stage, a show with Al Dawes is akin to being licked into fits of
giggles by Tommy Coopers St Bernard. And Al always has a tot of brandy
to hand. Sometimes you will think you shouldnt be laughing, but aaaah,
look at his lovely hair. He talks with misty eyed nostalgia about the
great challenges of life. And why more of us should smoke a pipe. Al
thinks he is ahead of his time, but it is clear hes somewhere back in
the 50s.
