Lineup and details for Forum Funnies presents... Daliso Chaponda & Steve Hall on Saturday 4th February 2012
Coming to Forum Funnies in Darlington on February 4th 2012:
Daliso Chaponda
Daliso Chaponda's earliest aspiration was to become a reverend but alas, he enjoys sinning too much. Beginning his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show 'Feed This Black Man', Daliso's ran into immigration problems in 2004 and put on the show 'Don't Let Them Deport Me'. It got rave reviews but most people thought it was a joke. It was only when he was putting on the follow up show 'They're Deporting Me Anyway' in 2005 that people realised they should have written letters to government officials, offered him their hand in marriage and so on.
Before leaving Canada, Daliso appeared in the 2005 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival before spending 6 months touring the South African comedy scene and then moving to England, where he now regularly appears in comedy clubs and theatres across the UK.
Daliso has also been known to jump on planes and tell jokes anywhere on the globe (even on the planes - whether the passenger next to him wants to listen or not). In 2008 he was part of the Melbourne, Adelaide, Cape Town and Johannesburg Comedy Festivals. Recently he opened for Sugar Sammy's World Tour in Dubai, Jordan, and 8 cities in Canada. Indeed, after numerous dramatic apologies on Daliso's part, Immigration Canada forgave him for his past tangles with their office. It was a triumphant return.
"It takes a special kind of act to work on both sides of the Atlantic (as well as across Africa), but it seems an easy transition as he compels the crowd with his socially insightful comedy" - News and Star
"Full of extravagant gestures and impassioned speeches. He inspires whoops and cheers from his watchers. Highly recommended" - BBC"A stand up comedian with raw Eddie Murphy confidence, cheek and super-polished style" - Nerve
Steve Hall
As a solo live performer Steve Hall has provided the support for Russell Howard on his sell-out national tours Adventures, Dingledodies and the 2009 arena tour Big Rooms And Belly Laughs, whilst his recent work has also included a second series of writing for BBC Radio 4's The Now Show, as well as taking his solo show Steve Hall's Very Still Life to the 2011 Edinburgh Festival.
A finalist in the BBC New Comedy Award and Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award, Steve Hall made his Fringe debut in 2003 in the sell out Edinburgh show, Three Men And A Giant. Steve returned to Edinburgh in 2008 with his first solo stand up show solo show Vice Captain Loser.
However, Steve is still probably best known as one third of if.comedy Award nominated sketch show We Are Klang, alongside Greg Davies and Marek Larwood. In 2007 Steve performed as part of We Are Klang at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, where they were nominated for a Barry Award, before returning to Edinburgh for a four night sell out run. The group has appeared on the Paramount Comedy Channels Edinburgh & Beyond two years running and was nominated in 2006 for the Chortle Best Sketch Show, which they then won in 2007, before filming their own BBC 3 sitcom.
"This is stand-up as it should be: snappy and smart, occasionally nasty, and always funny" - The List
"Breathtaking comic firepower" - The Scotsman
"...a bold dissection of modern sexual behaviour that rivals Frank Skinner at his best, plus a bit of silliness thrown in for good measure. In short, he will made you think, cry with laughter and want to hug him all at the same time" - GQ
MC Andy Fury
Despite his relative inexperience, Andy is making a big name for himself on the local comedy scene and in the next twelve months he has all the potential to become a feature of the national comedy circuit.
Despite only starting comedy out of sheer boredom, Andy has impressed a lot of people in a short space of time with a wonderful mix of self-deprecation, dark jokes and off the wall surrealism. Hes as lazy as he is funny, and winning the Hilarity Bites New Act Of The Year 2010 title rounded off last year perfectly, after wowing audiences the length and breadth of the UK.
"Brilliant... The next Pub Landlord of comedy" - Hexham Courier
"Amiable and genuinely entertaining" - Floatation Suit
"A very funny man with a big future ahead of him" - Corby Radio
