Wilkinson Opens Clacton Store on Fri 1st July 2011

Shoppers in Clacton-on-Sea are in for a treat on Friday when Wilkinson, the value home and garden retailer, opens its brand new store, situated on Station Road, on Friday 1st July, with the help of the Clacton Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and the Clacton-on-Sea Unit Sea Cadet Corps.

The 8,300 sq ft store, which is located on the site of the former Vergo department store, will officially open at 9am, when representatives from Clacton RNLI and the Sea Cadet Corps will cut the ceremonial ribbon, alongside Wilkinsons chief executive, Stuart Mitchell, and store manager, Alan Kidd.

Volunteers from Clacton RNLI will remain in store throughout the morning, to hand out leaflets and offer local residents advice on staying safe at the seaside.

A Wilkinsons staff member will be handing out free tickets for a special in-store tombola from 8:30am in the town centre, offering shoppers the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes from the stores extensive product ranges. A duo of fearsome pirate stilt walkers will also be on hand to entertain customers, while Wilkinsons staff members will hand out free sweets and balloons to young shoppers.

To raise funds for Age UK, Wilkinsons charity of the year, which provides care and support for elderly people in the community, staff members will host an opening day charity raffle. Shoppers will be in with a chance of winning a jam packed hamper full of goodies from the store, including photo frames, tea towels and kitchen equipment.

Representatives from local radio station Dream 100 will also be in attendance to entertain shoppers with music and games, where four lucky customers will be in with a chance of winning 100 worth of Wilkinsons vouchers to spend in store.

Store manager, Alan, said: Opening a brand new store in such a close community like Clacton-on-Sea is an exciting prospect for Wilkinson. With our great value, high quality product ranges, and our focus on providing excellent customer service, we feel that we have a great deal to offer shoppers in the town.

The whole team has worked tirelessly to ensure everything is perfect for opening day, and it is shaping up to be packed full of fun. We are looking forward to welcoming customers through the doors, and we hope they will enjoy the new shopping experience.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday 2nd July, when there will be a traditional sweet stall outside the store, providing shoppers with free candy floss. A face painter will also be in store between 10am and 4pm to transform children into a variety of creatures, and a pirate themed balloon modeller will hand out colourful creations for young shoppers to take home.

Wilkinsons sells more than 25,000 product lines, including health & beauty, cleaning products, gardening equipment and homewares, and is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country, serving more than 178 million customers each year.

Still a family owned firm after 80 years of trading, Wilkinsons has 354 stores across the UK. Wilkinsons is committed to Britains high streets and is an active supporter of local charities, community groups and care organisations.
