This evocative play chronicles the true-life story of John Merrick, treated first as a fairground freak because of his hideously, repulsively deformed body and later exploited by Victorian society.
Merrick is known only as The Elephant Man as he travels the country as a Carnival attraction. Arriving in London, he comes to the attention of upcoming surgeon Frederick Treves, whose studies bring Merrick to the wider attention of the public and inspires both curiosity and repulsion
