After the phenomenal sell-out success of last summer’s debut two day festival in Cardiff, the mighty Metro Weekender returns to the glorious grounds of Coopers Field, Bute Park on the August Bank Holiday Weekend for a second sun-drenched weekend of festival fun.

Split across two days, indie-dance day Cardiff Calling sets the pace on the Saturday with a rock n’ roll swagger, before dance all-dayer South West Four finishes off the weekend in style by bringing you the biggest DJs on the planet. Based upon the success of its London cousin (Metro Weekender London returns to Clapham Common on the same August Bank Holiday weekend, fresh from last year’s 40,000 sell-out), Metro Weekender Cardiff got off to a flyer in 2006. Both Cardiff Calling and South West Four sold out their 10,000 tickets (per day) and the whole weekend was a roaring success as people travelled from all over Wales to the capital!! Last year’s highlights included live performances from Snow Patrol, De La Soul, Lily Allen and Jamie T at Cardiff Calling, plus banging sets from DJs Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed and Armin Van Buuren at South West Four. It was also very flattering to hear that the Metro Weekender had been nominated for 4 awards at the UK Festival Awards 2006, with both Cardiff Calling and South West Four picking up nominating for Best One Day Festival and Best New Festival. Bless.

Like a good wine, Cardiff’s Metro Weekender 2007 will just keep on improving with age! We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, tweaking all the best bits to ensure that this year’s two day event will live long in the memory. South West Four will offer even more value for money as we bring you more of the biggest names in dance music, alongside the key clubs and DJs from Cardiff. Cardiff Calling meanwhile, will be more of a straight up ‘live bands’ affair, with a heavier emphasis on new and emerging Welsh bands across the 3 stages – featuring for the first time ever, the ‘Cardiff Calling Unsigned’ Arena. Our commitment to working with the cream of local talent will continue even more so this year as we look to build upon the success of 2006’s awe-inspiring Metro Weekender and cement its place in the history books as a festival Cardiff can be proud of.
