Lineup and details
Simply put, this is the cream of the crop from the Edinburgh Festival.
When the comedy leviathan rumbles to a halt, you may think that this means the end of a spectacular run of great live comedy.
Glenn Wool: Inventive Canadian stand-up Wool certainly cuts a dash on stage with his heavy black eyeliner, long leather coat and distinctive cowboy hat. Already an established comic in the USA with his laid back, confident and edgy style and stunning improvisation. No subject too sensitive, no issue too extreme.
Dan Atkinson: Good humoured and witty, it's when working with the crowd that Dan truly shines, weaving small comic miracles seemingly out of thin air. With an ability to find comedy where it appeared there was none, there's little time for material which is a shame: it's sharp, funny, and there's lots of it. Dan isnt political or particularly topical, nor overly clever. Hes just a shabby bearded chap who always makes people laugh. Youll never get the same show twice its genuinely fresh and unpredictable. Full of hope, vigour and vitality, hes hopelessly likeable and quite out of touch with real life.
Isy Suttie: Her writing is admirably prolific, making it impossible to know what from her impressive repertoire of confessional anecdotes, idiosyncratic observations or comedy songs she'll perform on any given gig.
The songs are the outstanding highlights, with a catalogue that includes a knowing parody of comedy songs, a deceivingly twee pixie-based number, a screeched, disjointed tribute to the world of jazz or a subversive revue-style number about the irrational fears of the average Daily Mail reader.
Joe Wilkinson: The apathetic deadpan style is a tricky one to pull off, too often forming an insurmountable barrier between a comedian and his audience; but for the most part Wilkinson seems to pull it off, being uninterested but not uninteresting. Not all the material is up to a comparable level, but this relative newcomer has that all-important comic stance nailed.
