Iconic Liverpool Club Re-opens

Liverpool’s historic club venue, The Magnet, has been taken over by enthusiastic new owners and re-launches with a new underground direction next month.

New owners Steve Smith and Paul Morgan have a combined 38 years of experience in managings bars and promoting parties at all manner of clubs and bars around Liverpool and Europe. Steve has variously run and worked in places like quadrant Park, BabyCream and more recently Alma de Cuba. While Paul has help break fresh talent like Kim Fai, Richard Dinsdale and Bart B More to new cities across the UK. The pair now intends to get back to more intimate parties by making the most of Magnet’s unique, bespoke and cosy aesthetic, whilst at the same time pushing new acts into Liverpool’s collective clubbing conscious.

The Georgian building itself – situated in Liverpool’s Cultural Quarter - is, frankly, remarkable. Decked out with an impressive Funktion ONE sound system, it has a unique fishtank room and intimate main room - perfect for those up-close-and personal sessions with your favourite DJ. The place opened over 52 years ago and, since the early days when rock behemoths Queen played their first gig at the club, international DJing illuminati like Slam, Ame, Silicone Soul, Pier Bucci, Will Saul, Norman Jay MBE and many more have passed through the doors on a regular basis.

Steeped in such history, the place has so much character it makes for a memorable night out before even one beat has been dropped!

The music will be at the heart of all Magnet does going forward, with a friendly anyone welcome atmosphere and new night Mama Said the flagship weekend event. Other up-coming guests include VeryVeryWrongIndeed’s boss Tim Sheridan plus legendary DJ, music critic and producer Chris Coco and Godskitchen worldwide resident, Toolroom Records producer, Global Underground artist and stalwart member of the nu-breed of house music Paul Thomas as well as underground talent Nickelle plus many more.

First co-owner Steve Smith says…
“The venue is so special I always loved it and always wanted to own it so I could exploit its potential! I plan to update the musical direction but maintain the underground, retro vibes. Magnet is special for its history, smell and feel, and we intend to make the most of that. “

Whilst his partner, Paul Morgan, adds…
“I never felt that Liverpool had the right venue for me to play in after I fell in love with house music so the chance to own my own venue and put my own mark on the city's club scene with guest DJs and the right sound made me think buying the place was a risk worth taking.”

Things kick off for Mama Said, with a launch party on Bank Holiday Sunday in August with Timo Garcia, James Francis, Jesus Pablo and more, then Mama Said gets into its groove proper for the first of its weekly Saturday parties with Milkwish, Jesus Pablo, Thomas Tuft and more on Saturday September 4th.
