Lineup and details for An Evening of Indian Classical Music on Wednesday 8th February 2012
Each masters of their instruments; Kiranpal, Surjeet and Manjeet are admired by both audiences and critics alike for their flawless technique and imaginative spontaneity.
Kiranpal, the leading disciple of Santoor virtuoso Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was initiated into the Guru Shishya Parampara ceremony in Mumbai by Sri Satguru Jagijit Singh Ji. He completed ten years of intensive study with his guruji, mastering the 100 stringed instrument and has gained much respect for his performances throughout the UK and beyond.
Surjeet was also initiated by Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. At Bhaini Sahib, Surjeet was trained in the Dilruba by Ustad Gurdev Singh and Ustad Harbhajan Singh. He later received vocal training but his love of the enchanting sound of the Sarangi led him to the doors of the great deity of Sarangi, Puundit Ram Narayan in 1977. He spent the next 15 years of his life in training under his wing.
Manjeet, aka Minta Singh, is widely recognized as one of the UK's finest Indian percussionists. Reared in the Indian classical music tradition his flair and aptitude for adaptation and innovation soon found him excelling not only in the Tabla but also in Latin and Afro-Cuban drumming which has put him on the world music platform. Minta has performed with Jarvis cocker, Badley Drawn Boy, Marianne Faithful and Beth Orton plus many more.
