Lineup and Details for Glorious Music Night Featuring Bluesman Gerry Cooper + Kelter + Open Mic on Tue 7th August 2012

Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, Gerry Cooper has lived and worked in West Yorkshire for many years, playing all sorts of music with all kinds of people. Even when playing in Ceilidh bands, Irish rock groups and church groups, not to mention pit bands in the theatre, Gerry's first love always remained solo acoustic blues. Listening to pre-war recordings of the old blues players was a major musical influence in his youth, and is something which has become increasingly important as the years have rolled on. Assiduous practice, plus a three-year spell at Roger Sutcliffe's influential blues guitar workshop, helped to sharpen up Gerry's playing, until eventually he took over leadership of this workshop when Roger retired. A deep commitment to music is demonstrated in associations with the famous Leeds Blues Mafia, as well as a three-year stint with Richard Young in legendary duo The OKeh Boys. A performance not to be missed!

Kelter is a four piece post punky garage rock band based in Huddersfield, formed at the university back in 2011. Having made a name for themselves playing at such local venues as The Parish and The Black Lounge, this band's aim is to hypnotise an audience with their unique take on post-punk; driving beats and cool riffs which have had them previously described as "innovators of garage rock, these guys are catchy as hell." The band have a good student following, and are now looking to spread their wings a little wider - so here they are getting on board our glorious night of music!
