JAMAICAN LEGENDS Ernest Ranglin, Monty Alexander, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare take to the road for exclusive UK tour

Icons of reggae join forces to create supergroup for showpiece dates

The Jamaican Legends are excited to announce the dates for their unique UK tour this summer. The virtuoso union will see Jamaican legends Ernest Ranglin, Monty Alexander, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare come together for a short series of unique one-off spectaculars to celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence.

The sensational quartet will be collaborating at just four exclusive dates from July 29th August 1st in major cities across the UK. Each artist brings with them decades of creativity and experience in creating and developing the sound of modern Jamaican music.

The tour will be coming to the Alexandra Theater in Birmingham on the 30th July.

Ernest Ranglin leads the group on guitar. He is best known for his session work at the famed Studio One and helped give birth to the ska genre in the late 1950s. Ranglins collaborators have included a wide variety of renowned artists like Bob Marley, Monty Alexander and Jimmy Cliff.

Jazz pianist Monty Alexander is known for fusing a strong Caribbean influence into his work. He has produced countless individual records and has performed and recorded with artists from every musical spectrum including heavyweights Frank Sinatra, Ray Brown, Milt Jackson and many others.

Completing the quartet are Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare who joined forces in the 1970s. Establishing themselves separately as professional musicians in Jamaica, they have played on and produced thousands of recordings. The pair have linked up with a vast array of prominent Jamaican musicians from Beenie Man to Sean Paul, and have produced for artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Sting.

The Jamaican Legends tour is part of the celebrations for the Respect Jamaica 50 festival. The two-week event will celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence in a variety of venues at Londons O2 and represents one of the greatest celebrations of Jamaican music and culture the UK has ever seen.
