country rock infused with gospel and Americana
Born in Glasgow, Phil Campbell broke into the music industry at 18 progressively leading to two appearances on “Later with Jools Holland” as his career took off.
After living in London for 13 years, He came back to Glasgow to begin his life. Dropped from 2 (or was it 3 ) deals, He started by checking out the open mic nights. He met Amie Hume and Robyn Keen on a Tuesday night at Cafe Rio in Partick. They introduced him to percussionist Ian Murray and together they became Phil Campbell + The Safe Words. Later ex-Supernaturals ex-Paulo Nutini guitarist Paul Malcolm came on board, bringing Marc Carruthers on bass. All this time, he was making "Saviour's Song" in his bedroom in the west end of Glasgow. Together with his last record "Daddy's Table", their intention is to swim with sharks of Glasgow's live scene to promote their own nights and sing their own song. “The look on those girl's faces when I said we were going to Belfast... you can't buy that.” Phil x
His albums have all met with critical acclaim with the recently released “Saviour’s Song” “delivering a unique breed of country rock infused with gospel and Americana that is sure to appeal to fans of Tom Waits and Ryan Adams”
