The Haycock Hotel, Peterborough

Review of Orchards Restaurant Overall rating: 3.5 We where seated in the conseratory which was quite cold and lacked any of the ambience of the rooms we had passed through to get to the conservatory.Our waitress parked a heater between 2of the seven guests the food was ok but the menu lacked variety. Once we had finished our meals everyone was keen to get back to the warm log fireof the reception room where we finished our coffees All in all not to bad just cold and lonely in the conservatory (only 2 other diners) 7 out of ten

Review of Michael Caines at ABode Manchester Overall rating: 4.5 This restaurant serves some of the most exquisite food in Manchester. It is true 'haute cuisine' so if you're after something strong and simple, go somewhere else. Excellent variety of dishes, each a little masterpiece. Portion sizes are small and the dishes aren't cheap, so go here for a special occasion rather than to grab a quick bite. Fantastic service, too. Strongly recommend.

Salieri

Review of Salieri Restaurant staff apparently had no record of my online booking through Skiddle. My party of 8 were however accommodated without excessive delay. A bowl of fruit with a firework centre-piece was arranged at short notice (without charge) as a birthday treat. A highly enjoyable evening, thank-you.

We took our 5 year old and 13 year old daughters who both thoroughly enjoyed the food and were very well catered for. The restaurant was lively and we both enjoyed the food and bubbly on arrival.

Review of Prezzo - Woodbridge Overall rating: 3 The food was excellent as usual however, the lady who seated us did not greet us on arrival, I had to say who we were where upon she grabbed two menus and marched off! This lady never spoke to us, she just put our menus down on a talbe and walked off! The lady who took our order and brought most of our food was pleasant however, another gentleman who cleared our plates and brought our dessert menus was surly and quite frankly rude, almost as though we were disturbing him and a nuisance! He also was not impressed that I had a voucher ( 2 main meals for £12.95. All in all, good food, ok setting (we were squeezed between a window and a brick wall) but awful service.

Review of Elliot's Overall rating: 3.5 We booked for New Years. We were seated in the rear of the restauant near the private room that had 60-80 people. They trudged past us all evening long. The serving staff, while pleasant and tried very hard, but they were inept and inexperienced. After 3 attempts at ordering a Vodka Martini, straight up with a twist- I settled for a Gin and Tonic. There was a complete absence of any management for most of the evening and on my way out at 10 pm was looking to have a quite word but they were no where to be found The food was excellent. It is a shame that management did not pay the same attention to their end of the business.

Review of Peachy Keens - Birmingham Overall rating: 3 I went on New Years Eve. The food was good but thn on moving upstairs the music was so loud it was painful. It was too loud for all our oarty both young and old. There was very little traditional new years eve English music and I think this should have been mentioned in the advertising then we could have gone elsewhere to have more traditional new year music - so very disappointed. We left early to go and celebrate new year elsewhere where we could dance and sing along.

We had to ask for the set menu but once it come the service was good and cheerful, the food fine, and when one of the set desserts was not available we were offered any from the main menu.

When we arrived, I was told they had no record of my booking, yet I booked on this website and brought a printout of my confirmation. As a result I had to wait a while to be seated Also the website advised that the New Year's Eve deal was £19.99. When the bill arrived we were charged £25 each and a £25 sticker was placed on top of the original price on the menu. I said we should not be expected to pay this extra price as it was not as advertised. Finally the glass of champage we were told would not be provided until midnight. This is very misleading in the menu and website advertisement as unless you were on the final booking of the night, you are very unlikely to be still in the restaaurant at midnight

Review of The Sidings Hotel and Restaurant Overall rating: 3.5 I have eaten at this restaurant twice recently. Once in December and on New Year's Eve. The food is good on the whole and the ambience of the carriage is very nice. However, both times, we were presented with a bill that was correct, but when we went to the till to pay (they can't bring the machine to the table for some reason) the amount we were asked to pay was incorrect and much higher. The first time I queried the amount as I was with a group of friends and it was immediately changed. The second time, I didn't notice as my partner paid, but the next day I looked at the receipt and noticed we'd been overcharged by over £30. I phoned the restaurant immediately and they offered to replace the money on the card. However, this meant a round trip of 20 miles, just to get our money back. If your eat here, check the final amount you are asked to pay very carefully against the bill.

That sounds fab, but what they do not tell you is there is a suppliment added to everything, so how they get 19.99 I will never know. Will not be back and will be telling friends and family to stay clear.

We went on New Years Eve but our waiter was still exceptionally hospitable, and we greatly appreciated the small touches like crackers with our meal. The food was very good, but for me, the service alone won me over and I will go back again!

The Tree Hotel at Iffley Oxford

The Tree Hotel, Oxford

Review of The Tree Hotel at Iffley Oxford Overall rating: 4 Definitely the best Indian food in Oxford for my money (and the Thai dishes which we had sampled on a previous visit are excellent too). We started with prawn tempura (lightly battered and not at all oily) and spicy potato cakes with tamarind & yogurt sauce (delightfully authentic Indian street food). For the mains I had a very tasty Sea Bass marinated and cooked in a tandoor oven which had given the skin a wonderfully crisp texture - the accompanying bed of garlic spinach was delicious and a quirky touch was the onion bhaji on top! One of us had a chicken tikka masala which was competently done although the dish is intrinsically unexciting (no wonder it is a British favourite). The vegetarians in our party were well catered for with an excellent Saag Aloo and a Bhindi Masala (again, not oily as it often is) plus a Moong Dal Tarka. The accompanying Pulao Rice was beautifully scented and the Naans were good too. The only let down was that the restaurant was nearly empty (there were more people in the bar next door where they do serve the same food). Perhaps this is because the local connoisseurs of Indian food think of it in terms of a hot "curry" (from a Bangaldeshi restaurant) ... they should go here to find out what they have been missing!

I chose 2 starters instead of a mains - caravans cakes mmmmmm and tiger prawns in chilli and garlic. A m a z I n g ...... died and gone to heaven ..... OH had vesuvio pizza which blew his socks off. cooked in a wood fired oven right in front of us. Go ASAP !!!!!
