Located beneath the Arora Hotel in Manchester, Obsidian?s philosophy is immediately apparent in the breathtaking décor. Mahogany and Redwood floors reflect the aquamarine neon that acts as backlighting to the 50ft glass bar, while tall chairs frame intimate, rounded booth-style seating. The menu is surprisingly reasonable in the face of this stylish opulence: there are many main courses for under £15 and starters for under a fiver. Fish lovers are urged to try the Obsidian fish pie, while meat-eaters might like to sample the simple fillet, fat chips, spinach and oven roasted tomatoes ? or perhaps something from the game selection, when in season.
