Sankeys brings some main room genius with the start of a new night Garuda. Promising the finest in trance, progressive and tech monsters, the night centres on melody and inventiveness in the genres rather than wasp in a bottle synths and cheesy breakdowns.
And who better to headline the festivities than the masters of the classy trance sound, Anjunabeats head honchos Above & Beyond? Whilst Trance has become something of a dirty word amongst dance music fans, Above & Beyond have made it their mission to redress the balance. Dropping effortlessly melodic cuts that favour groove over monotony, theyve led the charge for reclaiming Trance back form the cheese. Whilst the obvious conglomerate of Ferry, Armin and PvD remain certified fans, the duo have also picked up plays plaudits from Pete Tong, Hernan Cattaneo and even Laurent Garnier. Praise doesnt come much higher than that.
Supporting them will be wunderkind Gareth Emery, the Southampton based Trance prodigy who like A&B has reinvigorated the genre over the past six years. Since his classic rework of The Shrinks Nervous Breakdown found its way to the front of trance jocks boxes in 2002, Gareth has driven his own template of warm and funky trance to the masses. Headlining clubs the world over, he has become one of the scenes leading lights on account of his masterful understanding of the genre at work.
The final component sees Northern Irish techno titan Fergie rock up, adding a Teutonic edge to the melodic cuts of Gareth and A&B. Playing slamming tech house and lush techno, Fergie has been a pivotal force in the British techno scene and a key producer of note in recent years, soundtracking the sets of Carl Cox, Adam Beyer and Danny Howells
