WIN Tickets -hotchip DJ Set at Uber - Carliste 24th of July

25th Jun 2009

There they are collaborating with Skiddle to bring the dance tents up to bedazzling speed with a glorious line-up of established heavy hitters and fresh talent including Danny Rampling, Hot Chip, Meat Katie and Sonny Wharton. Danny is also offering a unique DJ workshop at Wickerman – go to www.learnhowtobeadj.com for more info. For all things dancey and Wickerman-y, go to: www.wickerdance.com.

But first up this Carlisle party features two headliner duded plucked from north of the border from Wickerman, with the British dance music eccentrics Hot Chip’s Felix and Joe offering a superlative DJ set in the intimate confines of Club Concrete.

Hot Chip’s enigmatic brand of leftfield electronic pop has enamoured them with the record buying public and the critics of all forms of music since they first caught the eye back in 2003. Whilst the little known Mexico EP in 2000 may have caused a faint ripple, it wasn’t until the Moshi Moshi released ‘Coming on Strong’ hurled outwards that their oddball eccentricities and infectious rhythms became on the radar of music fans. Following that with 2006’s ‘The Warning’ and the group had arrived, boasting the brilliantly radio friendly singles ‘Boy From School’ and ‘Over and Over’.

And then last year’s awesome single ‘Ready for the Floor’ burst out, a top ten smash that was as eccentric and joyous as the influences that permeated the band, Syd Barrett, Ray Davies and Arthur Brown just as gleefully evoked as the more obvious choices like Orbital and the Chemical Brothers. And the boys have always known how to DJ, dropping a smorgasbord of electronic and out there hits on k7!’s ‘DK Kicks’ in 2007 and recently a smash double mix for Bugged Out! The first disc is focused on heavy electro and techno from Boys Noize and Gabriel Ananda, the other on catchy feel good music and erstwhile rare grooves, think Hall & Oates, Biz Markie and Luther Vandross having a dancehall, ambient and soft rock mash-up, and you only halfway through the mess. Genius at its finest, and resplendent of why Hot Chip are the perfect soundtrack for a lost evening in Uber’s cavernous floor.

Tony van Lierop and Jonny Patrickson throw forward their support.
