Uber Presents Danny Rampling & Switch!
11th Dec 2007
Northern clubbing institution Uber only recently turned one, but they’ve managed to achieve a breathtaking amount in 12 months. Earmarking the city of Carlisle, with its close proximity to the Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall yet miles from any other bustling metropolis, as a leading rave destination ranks up with their accolades, but inviting guests of the calibre of DJ Sneak, Darren Emerson, Yousef, Lottie and Sandy Rivera to name but a few down for their raves is surely following a close second. Instilling dance music in destinations away from the more obvious locations is clearly within the intended acid house spirit, and for this Uber can retain a special sense of achieving the goals of those trendsetters of the late nineties. With their dedication acting as homage to the work of the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Paul Oakenfold who helped shape music in the late eighties after a well publicised holiday to Ibiza, it’s only fitting that Uber sees a performance from the man who joined them on that journey of fate, UK house legend Danny Rampling for a 4-hour classics set to help usher in the true festive spirit!
Rampling quite simply is one of the key reason house music exploded in the UK, discovering the Balearic sets of Spanish legend Alfredo whilst spinning at Amnesia on his infamous holiday back in 1987. He then went back to London espousing the greatness of the music, starting Shoom and being at the forefront of the acid house explosion as the summer of love, repetitive beats and ecstasy took over the UK. Throughout the nineties his Lovegroove radio show on BBC Radio One was the essential house music outlet, kick-starting the party alongside other jocks Pete Tong and Judge Jules for the entire nation to hear every weekend. Right now he’s still as relevant; taking time away from DJing he quickly came back with a slew of widely received releases, and as a DJ who was at the top of his game for over twenty years, peerless in his ability to command a crowd. Having retired and being lured back to the fray, it’s a sure fire defining moment of history for a club that has already managed to litter its past with memorable occasions having Danny on board for 4 hours!
Next up is fidget house impresario Switch, whose gutter house excursions through the most leftfield of sources has seen him encumbered with some serious attention from clubbers and press alike. His Ableton sets have enabled him to ransack a wide and varied palette, throwing together latin, hip-hop, baille funk and reggae alongside the more traditional house and techno elements within house. Never one to be pigeonholed, If you care to look deeper into what he does you will find tracks that cover all bases from hip-hop to twisted afro through to the jackin’ house music he is currently finding fame with. With Rampling earmarking the past so effectively, Switch signifies to what the future holds for house music.
Support comes from Uber head honcho Ki Creighton, Tony van Lierop, JP & Clarkey, Barry Darnell and Peter Thompson.
