London three piece The xx have been awarded the Mercury Music Prize 2010, for their debut album xx.
The band accepted their prize of £20,000 at a star studded ceremony at the Grovesnor House Hotel in London tonight (September 7th), which was broadcast live on BBC2.
Singer Oliver Sim accepted the prize with a humble speech, saying "Wow. Thank you so much. We’ve had the most incredible year and it’s just felt like every day we’ve woken up to something incredible that we just weren’t expecting."
Other artists nominated for the prestigious award were Paul Weller, Dizzee Rascal, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, Corinne Bailey Rae, Biffy Clyro, Foals, Villagers and The Kit Downes Trio.
Recent winners of the Mercury Prize have included Elbow, Klaxons and Arctic Monkeys.
