It was Saturday 7th November and The Enemy kicked off their Music for the People Headline Tour at 53 Degrees in Preston. The band emerged on stage and, while the fireworks were still banging outside, The Enemy were determined to put on an impressive display inside.
The crowd were starting to get into it and eagerly sang along from the offset, when....."PLEASE LEAVE BY THE NEAREST EXIT...PLEASE LEAVE BY THE NEAREST EXIT..." was heard over the music. The band ditched their
instruments and made a speedy escape.
I was on my own as my friend had gone to the bar a good 20 minutes earlier...dilemma.....do I risk not finding him again and leave, or stay put with the risk of, err, death? After a good 5 minutes of the steady, pretty un-alarmed, shuffle out, the alarms finally silenced and pretty soon I spot my friend gripping our pints like they were the last 2 on earth, being cattle marched in with the other soggy peeps who'd been outside.
We returned to our spot as the band re-emerged and with no comment on the minor emergency, continued with their set which had been an even mixture of "We'll live and Die in these Towns", their debut album and the more recent follow up "Music for the People".
Only 2 songs later and the band were off for a break, but the crowd were chanting, already forgetting about the recent disruption. The boys returned to play the expected encore and finished the set with "You're not alone".

All in all a great night of music. The band, quite obviously influenced by Oasis, The Jam, and The Clash, plan to cram an impressive 15 gigs into just over 3 weeks, ending at The Manchester Apollo on the 29th November 09. A much recommended gig to go and see.
