The CMU Social
26th Sep 2008
CMU has been bringing together everyone in music for nearly ten years and is the UK’s biggest and most popular daily news service for the UK music business, read by over 12,500 music people every week day. Throughout its ten year history CMU has been known for its skill at discovering and championing new talent. Among the bands to get some of their first coverage in CMU are Stereophonics, Eminem, Snow Patrol, OutKast, The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, Kasabian, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Pendulum and Klaxons.
Because of its independent ownership, irreverent style and genuine passion for new music The CMU Social at 229 was created and now holds a regular birth on the second Tuesday of every month. As well as the music, the CMU Social is a real opportunity for music business people to meet, network and generally socialise – or prove their pop trivia knowledge with the CMU Pop Quiz (past winners include Sunday Best, Something In Construction and Olswangs/Glastonbury).
On Tuesday 14 Oct the sixth episode of the CMU Social will feature performances from one of CMU’s favourite new artists of the moment, Gillan Edgar, fresh from supporting Pete Doherty. Hailing from Manchester, Gillan is getting noticed in all the right places at the moment, including the CMU office, where it was quickly decided that he’s exactly the kind of guy we want playing for us. His music recalls The Beatles, Ryan Adams and Elliott Smith, with great lyrics and hooks so large they probably shouldn’t be allowed. He recently supported Pete Doherty in London, where he went down a storm, and we expect the same when he plays for us. Check www.myspace.com/gillanedgar
