Sound City Launch Party Review!
11th Jul 2008
Sound City laid out its statement of intent last night with
many of Liverpool’s media and movers and
shakers attending the launch party at Barfly.
Much speculation had developed in the UK
over the last few weeks and more light has now been shed on an event that will
shape Liverpool’s musical future and also be
one of the most important dates in the Capital of Culture calendar.
Fine food and wine were consumed in earnest by the early attendees
and once the bar was suitably busy, Sound
City’s director Dave
Pichilingi, gave a much-anticipated talk, expanding on some of the key themes
the festival is embracing. Not only will Sound
City be the world’s first conference
festival running on Second Life, but it seeks to find new unsigned talent from
around the country and the planet who all will be part of a unique and
incredible time for the UK
in late May. Dave’s vision is for Sound
City to run for many years and to
become as iconic as SXSW in America.
Sound City
will take over many of Liverpool’s greatest
venues, from intimate basements to huge warehouse parties over four days and
nights of action starting on Tuesday 27th May. Reverend and the
Makers, DJ Yoda, Wombats, A Human, Infadels, Lightspeed Champion are all
confirmed with label showcases from Wall of Sound, Moshi Moshi, Deltasonic and
many more too.
Later at the party, guests and the public were treated to a great
evening of music, taking in The Rascals, The Delta Fiasco, Ezra Bang and Hot
Machine, The Vagabonds and Christian, all who showcased a new wave of sound
which had a packed Barfly partying hard until late in the evening. A true
indication of what to expect in a few months’ time and everyone was left
wanting for more.
