Scouse Nouse for the Perfect Valentine's Night

2nd Feb 2010

SO, you want to look clever, thoughtful and even a little smug when you announce to your partner the fantastic evening you have planned in Liverpool this Valentine’s Evening? The thing is, the legwork is just a bit daunting…

Well it’s lucky you’ve got us at Skiddle, isn’t it? Call us amazingly kind, but we’ve done all that nasty research stuff for you. We'’ve picked two themes - an aviation one for you guys who insist on being a bit different, and a waterfront one, with all those twinkly lights romantically reflecting in Liverpool’s docklands – lovely.

We'’ve selected a little bunch of what we deem to be fabulous restaurants and paired them up with superb venues to spend the night, situated only a quick dash away. It may be cold outside, but we'’ve got some decidedly cosy ideas to warm that romantic heart of yours. Book all these places online at Skiddle, dust off your palms with a grin, keep shtum about this not being very hard work at all and enjoy a very fabulous Valentine’s night with more Brownie points than you could possibly shake a stick at. Or anything else, for that matter…
A Match Made In (the) Heavens
Ok, so you want it all – a quirky venue for dinner just a stone’s throw away from a decent hotel, where you can eat drink and be very, very merry. Well, since Christmas has been and gone, your Fairy Godmother is unfortunately elsewhere, so lucky we’re here instead.

At Speke Aerodrome, you'’ll find the very lovely Liverpool Marriott Hotel South, with its gorgeous restored Art Deco interior.  So far, so not very alternative, granted, but wait…bet you didn’t know that inside the hotel is STARWAYS restaurant, a quirky brasserie that owes its aviation theme to the very-interesting fact that it is built on the site of the departure lounge of the original airport terminal.

You'’ve got views to die for, a contemporary interior that welcomes you with the odd sly wink towards its former life, and a ready-made amusing topic of conversation for those of you who are nervously embarking on your very first Valentine’s Eve with a new squeeze. Aren’t we good to you?

The four-star Marriott hotel, located at 1 Queen Square, is just half a mile from Liverpool city centre. At a bargain £99 for a room on Februrary 14th, it’s not going to cost you the earth to treat yourself to the full Valentine’s experience. If you’ve not managed to work up enough of a sweat in the bedroom (ahem, excuse us) there’s even a gym and leisure club, so you may as well stay a couple of nights, dive into the mini bar and see the weekend in with real style.
What’s Up, Docks?
The choice is endless for stylish restaurants in Liverpool. The only way we could narrow it down was by being really obstinate and insisting on something with a waterfront view. For those casual young things who like to be where it’s all happening, how about a Valentine’s evening based around Liverpool’s docklands?
That Elusive Feeling…
We think the best bet is the intimate and cosy ELUDE at 15 Porter Street, Docklands. This welcoming little hideaway (it seats just 30 so book quickly) serves modern European cuisine and boasts a wide selection of wines, spirits, draught and bottled beers plus champagne and wines served by the glass. Enjoy the intimate and seductive atmosphere with a delicious dinner, friendly service and wonderful views until the early hours...
Wapping way to end the evening…
Now you’re really in the mood for a Barry White album, let us take your hand and lead you to…oh no sorry, that was George Michael…let us lead you quietly, then, to a few fabulous pads that are marvellously convenient for the docks.

Those in the mood for an alternative end to the evening can stick by the waterfront at the four-star Apartment 118 At just 100 metres from Albert Dock, you’re not exactly going to be walking your strappy heels into the ground (we were referring to the girls, but we’re really not fussy). It is comfortable but very very stylish and the breathtaking views of the River Mersey will provide for a very romantic sunrise... At prices ranging from £75 per night, it won’t break the bank either.

There are plenty more apartments in this area to choose from, all of them with restaurants nearby. Check out the 5th Floor Apartment 'The Reach' on Leeds street, Kings Dock Luxury Apartment, Kings Dock Penthouse Apartment or Jury’s Inn at Liverpool.

You can book them all through Skiddle (just click the links), and if you still haven’t made up your mind about a dining venue after reading this, you can check out the list of nearby restaurants under the ‘local area’ section - a handy little information slot that you can find under the details for each of our hotels and apartments.

There, that’s Valentine’s sorted. We’re getting quite good at this Fairy Godmother lark. Pass us that wand, will you…what’s your next problem?
