One of the longest running clubs in the UK continues to be one of the most forward-thinking too, and in 2009 Sankeys will finally be complete. With all of the components coming together – including everything from a full outdoor beach behind the venue for sun-lovers to enjoy through to a complete cinema in a new part of the club – there is also the mouth-watering prospect of 15 weeks of parties with a huge swath of guests drawn from right across the electronic spectrum. Names include Roger Sanchez, Jeff Mills, Dubfire, Nic Fancuilli, Steve Lawler, Armin Van Burren, Pete Tong, John Dahlback, Above and Beyond, Joris Voorn and many more – all supported by the long standing resident Greg Vickers and local talent from the North West bustling city.

“Fifteen years is a long time in promoting,” David Vincent, Sankeys’ director explains, “but here at Sankeys we feel there is still a hell of lot more to come from us too. The club is finally almost there. I feel it’s very close to being one of the best venues in the world. Not just with Spektrum upstairs, the Basement, the new cinema and the beach – but that we are still programming in great weekly parties and the musical ethos of the club is now more diverse as it has ever been. There is a special vibe in Ancoats, in Manchester – in the whole of the UK, which Sankeys is right at the fore of, and this summer the 15th anniversary will be a distillation of everything we’re about. Plus I am already planning deep into the winter too and the last few months of 2009 are already looking amazing.”

The entire venue is seeing extensive renovation and development along with the opening of a beach behind the club – complete with sand, deck chairs and lots of lovely outside furniture supplied by Habitat Manchester - check www.habitat.com for more details - and an array of plants and flowers for a taste of more exotic climes in Manchester, along with David Vincent’s final tweaks to the club itself.

1. Barcode Entrance Technology.
2. Beach Club.
3. Cinema.
4. DJ Boxes.
5. Ice Cannons.
6. LED Bar Ceiling.
7. LED Basement Matrix.
