In the global dance music environment there’s a number of key players that have continental and international recognition. The sort of clubs that have a worldwide appeal and fame built into their framework that ensures their brand and reputation is known everywhere. Sankeys, in 15 years of Mancunia based debauchery, can legitimately lay a claim to that kind of status, but when they combine with another bastion of it, the results are destined to be phenomenal. When that club is Ibiza’s We Love… Space, arguably the world’s most famous party, it’s seismic.

We Love… is the benchmark of Ibiza’s dominance over the global dance music community. Epically long, it brings in the world’s finest acts to party each and every Sunday in Space, and can lay a claim to bringing break beat, minimal techno, Italo disco and even drum n bass to the island successfully before others. This year they can count Jeff Mills, Chemical Brothers, Sasha, Laurent Garnier and even Grace Jones amongst their guests. They really are that good.

Headlining this party though is a man who has a long and fruitful relationship with the city of Manchester, the King of Space Steve Lawler, detonating with a 5-hour set. That title wasn’t bestowed upon him by canny promoters, savvy media types or even the hordes of international clubbers that swarm to the white isle each summer, instead it came from the Balearic locals who know the club like no other. They recognised Lawler’s talent in shaping rooms with his noir grooves, warped beats and technological trickery, allaying twisted acapellas to his beguiling instrumentals, and the ability to captivate for lengthy periods of time.

And that is exactly what he will be given the possibility to do at Sankeys, five full hours to delve deep into his musical psyche and blister through every texture of music he feels fit. Lawler was synonymous with Sankeys’ Friday institution Tribal Sessions in the early part of the century, laying dark tribal beats that encapsulated the club’s sound fluently. He remains a poignant selection with Sankeys’ and its music savvy patrons, fireworks guaranteed to greet his every move.
