Few artists can manage to pull off two pseudonyms with equal plaudits. Carl Craig managed it with '69', Marcus Kaye with Trevino and Marcus Intalex, and then there's Juan Atkins and Model 500. One artist that certainly pulls off a creative double life in spectacular fashion comes in the shape of Eric Estornel.

A few may remember his deeply soulful IDM alias Mariel Ito, appearing on SCSI AV and the critically lauded Modern Love (check out the stunning 'My Cyborg Depths' album if you get chance), but this was overshadowed somewhat by the insatiable appetite audiences were showing for his main focus - dance floor oriented project Maetrik.

With a slew of prolific releases that began back in 2001, Maetrik was one record at a time taking the world of deep, minimal, tech house and techno by force.

Labels like Treibstoff time and again sought releases from the young American producer, as his highly polished, darkly disturbing, technically superior dance floor cuts proved a huge hit, especially in discerning European clubs. Tracks like 'Heat', 'They Love Terror' showed of his snarling, deep as you like penchant for the netherworld of techno, and we simply couldn't get enough.

Then in 2009, Eric Estornel gave birth to a whole new beast, one that has shot him to widespread notoriety, highlighting once again his significance as an electronic talent worthy of reverence. A new project names Maceo Plex appeared alongside a split release with Maetrik, injecting a whole new carefree, soulful, funky freshness otherwise not previously explored by the producer.

Crosstown Rebels were the first to swoop on this new direction, signing 'Vibe Your Love' in 2010, a slab of neo-soul house complete with carefully low end nous and trademark super slick production skills. Eric Estornel promptly launched Ellum, his own label alongside Alta, heralding in a growing force in deep house, techno and tech house.

In between running the burgeoning label and putting out further releases on Cocoon, Leftroom and Resolute, Maceo Plex has continuously moved further and further up the bill, his notoriety more rife than ever before. The last year alone saw him embark on headlining sets at GlobalGathering, Hideout, Eastern Electrics and Creamfields, as well as enjoy an overtly engorged Ibiza schedule.

Friday 21st and Sat 22nd of February sees SIDEXSIDE welcome Eric Estornel and his Ellum imprint to an as yet undisclosed venue in London courtesy of warehouse rave specialists LWE. The man himself will be donning his Maceo Plex alias on the 21st, and the the 22nd sees the rare live appearance of Maetrik for an exclusive set that's an absolute must for fans of superior techno inspired house.
