River Cafe will reopen 'soon' following fire
9th Apr 2008
London's famous River Cafe restaurant will only be closed for a short period of time, following a fire in its kitchen over the weekend. The Michelin-stared restaurant was forced to close after a blaze broke out in the kitchen early on Saturday (April 5th) night.
Early reports suggested that around ten per cent of the restaurant - which is housed in a warehouse in Hammersmith - was damaged by the fire.
However, a statement posed on the River Cafe's website earlier today (April 9th) suggested that the damage was not too severe and that the restaurant would soon be open again.
The message read: "The River Cafe is temporarily closed following a small fire in the kitchen.
"We will be opening again soon - please watch this space for updates."
The River Cafe was first opened by Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers in 1987. It has since specialised in Italian food with a focus on the finest and freshest ingredients.
Celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall both worked in the kitchen, as did Sam and Sam Clark, now of Moro.
