Alex Turner and Miles Kane have a reputation for being innovators of British music but the latest offering from the pair in the form of The Last Shadow Puppets sees them indulging in a two minute slice of nostalgic strumming and crooning.
The two minutes of song drift past fairly uneventfully and although it is unlikely to cause offence it seems like an odd choice for a single as its lack of any real memorable moments or hooks, which mean that it quickly fades from memory.
With its matching 60's styled video, the retro effort is there but the problem with "Standing Next to Me" is that it tries too hard in an attempt to create the epic qualities that it wishes it could extrovertly wear but really, fails to flag down the attention it craves.
All in all a radio friendly chunk of retro-reminiscence, but not really up to the standard of what this band should be producing
