Review: Eric Morillo @ The Warehouse Project
1st Dec 2008
The Warehouse Project has built a reputation as one of the finest clubbing venues in the British Isles by bringing some of the most famous and respected dance acts from around the world to a former air raid shelter in the centre of Manchester.Erick Morillo was the headline act on this particular night and one of the most prominent DJ's in dance history created an atmosphere so electric that it made the £17.50 ticket price feel like good money very well spent. The atmosphere was so infectious that it swept over those attending before they had even reached the entrance and kept everyone dancing long after they had left.
Although The Warehouse Project is designed to give the feel of an illegal rave, the organisation behind the scenes of the venue gives those attending a much more comfortable experience. There is plenty of everything that anyone might need on a night out and although the queues for the toilets may seem ridiculous at times the facilities are more than satisfactory.
By the time that Erick Morillo had begun his set the crowd had already revelled in the upfront house music of DJ Krysko and the time could not have been more right for the introduction of Morillo himself. The atmosphere at this point resembled the sort of no holds barred party that house music was invented for as well as creating a sense of a Balearic reunion party for those lucky enough to have gone to Ibiza over the summer. From the moment that the iconic words "Erick Morillos in the house" resonated around the entire main room like a call to party, the atmosphere went up another notch to a level beyond what had seemed previously possible. For the next few hours everyone in attendance indulged in the finest house music and the party seemed to grow constantly until eventually at 5am proceedings were brought to a close.
The whole night at The Warehouse Project felt like a true escape from the reality of the working week to a party paradise fuelled by outstanding house music. If any venue can achieve what The Warehouse Project does, for a price which leaves skint students feeling like they've received exceptional value for money, then it is undoubtedly worth a visit.
