The lads at Colour have a pretty simple, yet very effective business plan. Take the best sound system in Manchester, the best techno DJs in the world, add some fantastic residents and finally make the punters wait so long between events that they’re practically foaming at the mouth with excitement outside the club. All this makes for some simply unforgettable parties.
With previous guests including Chris Liebing, Robert Hood, James Ruskin, The Advent and Surgeon, it’s plain to see that Colour is all about serious techno, and this month's line-up was probably the most serious to date - DJ Bone, Ben Sims and DJ Rush. All worthy headliners in their own right, and together they made for an unbelievable night.
We arrived to find that Spektrum (upstairs) was not to be opened for the night. Not to worry - as this meant we wouldn’t miss anyone due to set crossovers.

- Date: Friday 9th July 2010
- Event: Colour - DJ Bone, DJ Rush, Ben Sims at Sankeys
- Venue: Sankeys
- Artists: Ben Sims
After a great warm-up set from Ed Mackie, DJ Bone was next to grace the decks, playing to a not too busy Sankeys basement. But that soon changed once he started playing his own flamboyantly aggressive style of Detroit techno. The tempo started high and energy levels were soaring in the main room. Bone showed some absolutely wonderful skills with the faders and silky smooth mixing, there wasn’t a single person in that basement who could contain themselves. The atmosphere was without question, one of the best I have seen in Sankeys for some years.
Sims was up next and keeping pace wasn’t a problem for the UK techno legend. I’ve been waiting to see Ben for a while now and he didn’t disappoint. Renowned for his eclectic background and immensely tight mixes using 3 decks, he continued with the energy that Bone brought, playing pounding hard techno with plenty of huge build ups and drops.
Sims kept things interesting with plenty of vocal tracks and even mixed in the original of recent hit “Why Don’t You” by Serbian producer Gramophonedzie, albeit at his own frenzied pace.
After all this excitement we reluctantly had to drag ourselves away before DJ Rush’s set. I’m sure he continued the trend with a blistering set, but it's what an 11 hour day at work will do to you
Another great night from the people at Colour. Can’t wait to find out what they’ve got up their sleeves for the next few months. Whatever it may be, I’m sure It’ll be on to add to the diary.
