London's underground house night mulletover have won the hearts of clubbers all over the globe thanks to their unique events in secret locations, risk-taking approach and stellar line-ups.
This Summer they return to Ibiza with a series of nights at Sankeys in Playa D'en Bossa. We caught up with mulletover head honcho Geddes to find out what to expect.
You're bringing mulletover to Ibiza this summer with a residency at Sankeys. In a sentence, what is Mulletover?
Different from the ordinary.
What were your aims when mulletover started out in 2004, and do you think you've achieved those aims?
To create something that served a purpose in a scene we were involved in. I think we most definitely achieved what we set out to do.
How is Sankeys Ibiza as a venue suited to mulletover, and how did the residency come about?
There are no frills or red carpet, the guys have taken a risk trying to make the club work in a difficult place. Their ethos is closely tied with ours: taking risks and going against the grain.
You've got some great guests lined up for mulletover's Ibiza season - what are some real highlights for you? Any nights that you're particularly looking forward to?
I think this weekend is looking wicked, Sebo K I've been a fan of for years, Thugfucker are hot at the minute with their productions, Bill Patrick is an amazing DJ. Cerce Trova in room 2 are also well on their game, they've been doing similar parties to us in London but on a smaller scale, both Ross and Dan are great DJs. Move D, Tobi Neumann and Waifs & Strays for our last party is looking pretty exciting. In all the summer shaped up to be a good one!
How do Ibiza crowds differ to audiences back home? Does Ibiza present any fresh challenges/opportunities that you don't get in the UK?
The crowds are definitely more cosmopolitan which I like, I don't they present any more challenges just maybe the stamina to party.
You've recently made a return to production, with your Inner City Man EP. Tell us about that? What inspired you to get back into the studio?
I really want step up as a producer this year, I enjoy making music and that's my inspiration for getting back in the studio. Since Inner City Man was released I have a number of things in the pipeline.
2012 has also seen the launch of a mulletover compilation, celebrating 8 years of the night. How did the idea for that come about?
mulletover has been going for some time and it was something we wanted to do.
With such a rich history, it must have been a difficult project to curate? Are you pleased with the result?
Yes I was pleased with the result, I couldn't use a lot of the tracks I wanted but the mix sounded great.
What are your thoughts on Ibiza's underground scene at the moment? Do you think it's healthy? Which promoters are doing exciting things out there?
I think everyone is doing well in ibiza and the underground scene is as thriving as ever, it's healthy and I think a lot of promoters are taking some risks and doing things they wouldn't normally.
What do you think Mulletover will bring to the Ibiza offering this Summer?
A quality night with attention to detail, music that's outstanding, great people and hopefully secret after-parties :)
