The Mylo story began in 2003 when his Breast Fed imprint hurled out some expertly primed singles. It may have been the shiny house of Linus Loves first off, but Mylo himself threw out a six track EP which hidden amongst the tracks boasted the slinky delight ‘Drop the Pressure’, initially only interesting electro doyens Tiga, Steve Angello and cut n paste titans 2ManyDJs. Then it went interstellar.
The complete definition of a sleeper hit, it slowly went from kooky electro floors to stadium smashing sets from DJs as diverse as Erick Morillo, James Zabiela, Yousef and Judge Jules, fitting effusively into every genre going. Pete Tong caned it on his essential selection and then the ‘Destroy Rock N Roll’ album followed, throwing up further smashes in the shape of ‘Muscle Car’, ‘In My Arms’ and the gritty title track. Once Gloria Estefan got stapled on top of “Drop the Pressure’ Mylo was a popstar, bothering daytime radio with his warped ‘Muthafuckers’ gonna drop the pressure’ riff and selling stack loads of albums, hitting the globe’s finest clubs as a DJ at night in a blaze of hedonistic excess.
Since conquering the rave globe, Mylo hurled himself into a state of semi hibernation after a gruelling touring schedule. It was all in aid of his new opus, material that promises once more to ignite the clubbing glitterati with its shiny hooks and glorious funk injections, already getting the blogsphere frothing with excitement. A series of Kylie Minogue vocalled numbers surfacing on his MySpace has only served to increase that hype. A rare DJ set promises to spotlight much in the way of this new material, and the perfect main room madness to bring in 2009.
Plug will also be reverting to its infallible selection of resident decksmiths to bring in the New Year. The Hallam Floorfillers, literally the epitome of their name, ensure the feel-good factor is running high with their chart selections. LJ Freeman’s dirty house grooves provide the perfect backdrop for Mylo’s trickery, whilst whippersnappers Tom Lee and Ollie Hayes continue to deliver their sonic tapestries.
