Nervous Nitelife - Tom Stephan Mix Album Review

14th Feb 2010

You may know Tom as Superchumbo, one of his tribal and progressive incarnations, but here he launches another side to his production skills with house music for the peak time stompers. It's a good quality mix of relentless beats and hypnotic rhythms, with some great cut-up hard disco for those who appreciate dark and dirty clubbing.

  1. Nervous Disco Dolly's - Get Up Everybody (Starkillers Mix)
  2. Seductive - Underground Sound
  3. Robbie Rivera - Move Move (DJ Observer & Daniel Heathcliff Mix)
  4. Tom Stephan - Turn That Shit Up
  5. Richi Romero - African Forest
  6. Tome Stephan & Pete Gleadall - Lights Out ft Rowetta
  7. Tommyboy - Kamavtu
  8. Benny Royal - Back to Basic
  9. Afrojack - Polkadots
  10. Christian Arango - Body Shake
  11. SpiritMindster - Furious Night (DJ Dextro Mix)
  12. Deka & Dave Rose - Lose Control (DJ Chus Iberican Mix)
  13. Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano - Pondo (Chuckie & Silvio Ecomo Mix)
  14. Major Lazer - Keep It Going Louder (Tom Stephan Harder Mix)
  15. Larry Tee ft. Roxy Cottontail - Let's Make Nasty (Afrojack Mix)
  16. Rico Tubbs - Born to Bounce (Mikix The Cat Mix)
  17. Bingo Players - Get Up (Diplo Mix)
  18. Tom Stephan - Tunr That Shit Up (Diplo Mix)
  19. Oscar G - What You Need (Tom Stephan Mix)

Highlights for me include `Move Move` by Robbie Rivera, definately back on form with this funky bass driven beast of a tune. `Polkadots` is another future classic, Afrojack stay on the right side of minimal and keep the funk alive. My favourite tune in this mix has to be Rico Tubbs - `Born to Bounce`, instantly you are transported back to a happy place of hands-in-the-air heaven, big grins and big hugs and that sums up the mix well.

Too many mix cd`s available can bog you down with epic breakdowns and tedious melody patterns by producers that want to educate instead of entertain. On this cd Tom cuts through the elitism and gives the dancefloor exactly what it needs, funky, twisted and bass-heavy tunes to keep `em moving.

3.5/5
